OOC Schedule?

Post by Winkie » May 5th, 2023, 11:09 am

I am as thrilled with the roster development as the next guy. But, I can’t help but start thinking about the next big hurdle looming for this team organizing for the coming season … the Schedule.

Now, I recollect there were a few “home-and-homes” agreed to in scheduling last season. There is the return “arena” game in Delta Center with USF pending.

I come to the fan board to learn the latest. Any news, word, rumor, innuendo or gossip on what the schedule may look like?

Away games at Weber, Santa Clara and Bradley. Neutral court game against USF in SLC. Grand caymans tournament. Home game against San Diego. That is 8 I believe we would need 3 more. Is this the year we go to 20 conference games?

Ouch! We might need to play a few one-offs with some p5's. Maybe @UCLA, or @Gonzaga, etc

I wonder why they would even bother since it is likely SDSU is leaving..They would stick around a couple years but I doubt the MW would add anybody to replace them.

You may very well be right, but the prospect of them leaving is a lot more complicated than it seems at first glance.

Lots of dominoes to fall before that becomes a reality.

I can't find anything online about a 20-game schedule for next season. I did find an article in the San Diego Tribune that mentions that a few years back they tossed the idea around and university presidents voted on it. The proposal would've started the 20 game schedule in 2022-23 (which didn't happen). During the COVID year we instituted a temporary 20 game schedule, which was reverted the following year.

Can any of you sleuths out there get to the bottom of this?

A lot of Q2 and Q3 games again which is part of how we got in last season with a #10 seed.

We have a totally new team and a new coach. I'm ok playing a softer schedule overall.

I understand that strength of schedule is “very” important in terms of becoming nationally ranked and getting into March Madness, but I’m more concerned about becoming a 20+ win team again. More fans come to games and support the Aggies when we are winning. I don’t love our strength of schedule as of now, but we should be more concerned about team chemistry and how all these players are going to mesh on the court!

The SOS is there. The committee had to eat crow for doubting the computer rankings.

Outside of MW play, I don’t see how the “SOS is there”? We need to start playing better teams.

The NCAA selection committee? They matched us up against easily the weakest 7 seed, we were favored to win by by many predictors, and we lost in a game that wasn’t close in the last 7 minutes. Sounds like the selection committee put us right where we deserved, maybe a little high, honestly. ALSO, we still looked overwhelmed by their “SEC athleticism”, and I really hate saying that. Passing lanes that had been open all season suddenly weren’t open. Shots weren’t falling, but I think that’s partly because they didn’t give us good shots. Anyway, sorry for the rant. I think my point is we really need to win an NCAA tournament game at some point.

Hooray! 4 hour roadtrip from NE Iowa. Hope it's on a Friday/Sat/Sunday. We love to go to Peoria, haven't been in a year. My wife will be happy to hear this.

Mostly it's got a vibe that we like. We've been there 5-6 times in the last 8 years. Bigger city, without the BIG CITY hassle
The one weekend we were there to see Jim Gaffigan, it was also Illinois Boys HS State Championships in town, and another time it was State HS Cheer Championships -so it has some draw for HS state competitions -good hotels and the infrastructure to support it.
It's a river town, we like waterfronts. It is a little on the "needs to be updated" side, but they're working on it -last visit was much nicer than first time.
We've enjoyed plays at Bradley U performing arts and musicals at the Civic Center
They have a great comedy club that gets national acts.
There's some good food places
