Who Would You Add?
Let's say you could replace an end-of-bench player for one guy from last year's squad. Who would you add and why?

Shulga. He’s hitting over 40% from three and taking six shots a night. Also defense.

Ashworth, no question.
Shooter, leader, high character, Aggie. Exactly what we need on this team.

Re: Who Would You Add?
First thought was Eytle-Rock - stout D, decent shooter, could spell DBII 8-10 minutes a game.
Second thought: we really need someone who can spread the floor, so Funk or Ashworth.
Third thought: Akin or Shulga would give us a little more toughness and skill off the bench than Sakho or Templin.
Fourth thought: I really liked last year's team. Hated to see them go (of course Funk, Akin, E-R had no choice).

I chose Akin. The CSU game is the perfect example. They ate us for dinner in the post because of the lack of toughness.
I was incredibly unlucky with this team. The only two games i saw in person were vs Nevada and at CSU.

Meh - I still love the guy.
I left Logan for cash and opportunities, as well. I still love it. I'm still an Aggie.

I chose Ashworth. There is a reason he was recruited to Creighton.
That being said, I would love Shulga and Akin on this roster. They would fit the scheme better I think.

Re: Who Would You Add?
Great and Dan playing together would be lethal down low. With another good/tough big, I think this team would be top 15.

Akin, Funk, Shulga, Ashworth, in that order.

Re: Who Would You Add?
I had to lookup at the makeup of our current roster to decided between Shulga, Ashworth, Funk and Aiken, I suppose you could throw Bairstow in there but don't think anyone would choose him and I could make some case for Dorius just because he wouldn't get pushed around by the other teams center but there are too many other holes. We have great guards already so adding a guard would be a marginal increase, for example, I would want Shulga's shooting but his defense was suspect and he wasn't blowing by anyone driving to the hoop, whereas Falslev and Martinez might not shoot as well but play better defense and have slashing ability which would at least partially offset Shulga's shooting. I've already gone over why I wouldn't take this years Ashworth over Brown or Martinez, haven't analyzed it against Falslev yet but in any case adding Ashworths shooting would be nice but again looking at defense and taking minutes away from other guys and it is a marginal gain. Osobor is already the presence down low so while adding Akin would be great, it would have to be a bench role to spell Osobor, which does have some merit, playing both of them together would clog the lane or make us play with only 4 on offense. So I voted for Funk who would start over Johnson, his defense wouldn't be worse than Johnson and he would give us a legitimate 3 point presence and stretch 4, something we hope Johnson can become but he isn't there yet. Having Funk would open up the lane for Osobor because you couldn't leave him open or put a guard on him, you'd have to move a big out to guard him, this alone would open up Osobor because of the spacing and you would have better shooting. The offense could reach new heights altogether.
Overall, It isn't just the best player from last years team but it is the difference in the player and the minutes he is replacing. And that is clearly Funk.

When you were a junior another school called and offered you a better scholarship? A TA gig perhaps?918AGG wrote: ↑February 23rd, 2024, 3:25 pmMeh - I still love the guy.

Nobody was clamoring for Ashworth to live in Logan his entire life after graduating.

I sure would love a little Rylan Jones backing up Brown. So happy for the kid and hope it all ends well.

Re: Who Would You Add?
Funk, the most versatile of the bunch and does well playing off the ball.
I understand the Shuga and Ashworth but hear me out.
We don’t need ball handling or ball dominant guards, as much as we need shooting, and Funk is as much a threat as Ashworth and can shoot over guys with just as good if not better range. Also Funk provides depth and shooting at the 4 and could help out if/when Great gets in foul trouble, needs a rest or is just having a bad game.
If we took Shulga he takes on a more ball dominant roll where he really thrives in pick and roll. I don’t think that fits our current offense and it also takes the ball out of Brown’s hands more than I would like.

Re: Who Would You Add?
With Brown/Martinez/Falslev/Uduje we are solid at the 1-3. Sure Shulga and/or Ashworth would strengthen the rotation and help improve our 3pt shooting, but I think we could use more help in the 4/5 rotation. Funk/Akin had a lot of minutes at the D1 level while Johnson/Sakho/Templin have nice potential but need more experience. I voted Funk because of the makeup and experience of our current squad.

Re: Who Would You Add?
Funk and it's not close. His 3 range is unreal and Ashworth would struggle with the league's height this year on D. Especially considering how they pack the paint with Osobor. It would stretch the other team like you couldn't believe. Bring me Funk Daddy

Re: Who Would You Add?
Ashworth, Shulga, Funk. In that order. I don't want RJ back, and Bairstow is inconsistent/injury prone. I want Akin, but I think Akin would be underwhelming on this team offensively and/or conflict too much with Great's role. I love Akin, but I don't think he would be the most beneficial to this team. He did so well last year because it was him with a bunch of guards. He could mop up inside because outside was so potent.
My gut was initially Funk, but I'd prefer Ashworth or Shulga because they provide some defense. Ashworth is a bit peskier and disruptive; I think Shulga was a bit less of a defender than Ashworth (e.g., more likely to jog complacently after a guy blew past him on a breakaway).
