The "I'd rather Bovee make the hire than Sabau" stuff here is comical.

Under Bovee's watch, we hired a coaching staff and gave them five nights in a hotel and a good luck. Now we have an actual professional athletics director in place who is turning this into a modern D1 program that will treat people properly and not be amateur hour.

I don't know where it is on the list of challenges that this outgoing coaching staff had with USU, but things got off to a rocky start when proper temporary housing wasn't provided to the coaches.
It's clear that you have a personal issue with Bovee, but THIS is comical. Danny is leaving to take millions of dollars at the program his dad coached at. Not because they spent a few nights in a hotel.

Jerry has had an incredible track record hiring coaches, including one who is likely going to be named national Coach of the Year. Diana is a professional, and yes, is very capable of making big decisions. But she's never made a coaching hire bigger than the women's hockey coach at Ohio State. I very much would rather have Bovee leading the search. And that's no shot at Sabau.

Depends on your definition but if you paid me $1m to live in Cache Valley forever, I would take it. I would never consider leaving. So yeah I’m stable.

What about Bucky McMillan the Samford head coach? Had a very impressive team this year.

I think he'd do great, but he's not leaving Alabama to head to Logan. Not necessarily a cultural thing, more of a geographical issue. He grew up just down the road from Samford. He'll likely stay in the southeast and hope to take the job at Alabama, Auburn, or UAB when one of those opens up.

Fun story. I once lived within a couple of miles of samford. Pretty nice area of Birmingham.

If Toledos coach truly is the front runner that would be an amazing hire and we should all be pushing for that as our first option.
Is it a concern that he does really well in the regular season but cannot get over the hump in the conference tournament? I don't think he has taken Toledo to the tourney. He does seem like he is a very good coach.

I’m very very very high on Simon. Watched him in the MAC championship game and loved his style.

After Devries he was my #2 overrall. (Unless we can land someone insane like a Medved)
I've been told Todd Simon would jump at Utah State.
More than anything else, this gives me optimism about our program going forward. He inherited a dumpster fire at both SUU and Bowling Green and turned both programs around quickly. If Todd Simon is our floor, we should be in very good hands. (I'm not trying to imply that Simon should be only a backup option; he may very well be the best candidate available. I'm just saying that if he wants the job, hopefully we can get him even if Sabau were to swing and miss on a couple other candidates.)
Simon would 100% take the job and be here for a long time if he got it.
Although I said it earlier, I'll double-down here as well.
What are the chances Simon ends up being the coach ?

He might be my first choice.

Simon is growing on me as well. I just look at what he did at SUU. SUU is a tough place to be successful at and he turned them around while he was there. He also flipped Bowling Green's record in one year. Like that he spent a lot of time in the west so is familiar with the area. He might be my first choice.

Luckily the MW is a multi bid conference, if he wins the regular season every year he will be in March every year.

Will you play your best players in the first half if they get 2 fouls versus sitting them for 10-15 minutes while the lead is ballooned? Will you use your timeouts more frequent especially once the momentum starts versus letting a lead balloon too much? I sure wish some of our coaches would learn from these situations lol.

Arizona hired an assistant coach 3 years ago. Since then Arizona has been a 2 seed in the NCAA tournament twice and a 1 seed once.
IIRC, when we hired Duryea, I think we wanted to hire Tommy Lloyd, but he laughed at us? Then Scott Barnes folded and just passed the job along to Duryea because he was out the door.

Maybe Barnes at least contacted him, but I don't think he was ever a serious candidate. As I recall, Ben Howland wanted the job initially, but ended up going to Mississippi State instead. Then there was a prolonged courtship of an assistant at Utah (I forget his name), but we couldn't come to an agreement with him. When the Utah guy turned us down, we settled for Duryea because the Utah guy had strung us along for so long that he was the only candidate still interested.

Usually we would have seen a "USU wishes Coach Sprinkle the best and will be conducting a nationwide search for its next coach" PR statement by now. Is it noteworthy we haven't seen that yet?

I believe Connors was the guy from Utah that was stringing us along.

We are in a better place right now. There are more resources in the AD than in the past. As long as we fans don't get complacent, our program will be fine. It does suck to lose an entire team. We should know that turnarounds can happen very fast when you get the right coach. While there is much risk, it isn't impossible.

Funny, I don't think he is even in coaching any more after Krysto got fired at utah

Let’s compare the positive and negatives of Tunka versus Simon for our next head coach…. Someone in the know, please chime in.
Let me start by saying that Simon seems like a really solid coach, and I think he would do well here and be around for a while.

BUT, there's really no comparison. Tunka is a Nobel Peace Prize winning philanthropist who coaches only for the love of the game, and he's damn good at it, too. He's taken not one, not two, but THREE programs from the cusp of being shut down due to poor performance to national contenders. He's turned zero-star recruits into All-Americans and NBA lottery picks. He's never had a losing season. And most of all, he's just a great dude.

Tunka has my vote.

It's a miracle that we have a second chance to hire a coach like Tunka after whiffing the first time. We can't let him slip away again.

I’d like to throw my hat in the ring

Coaching Experience: 0 years (not even Jr. Jazz)
Recruiting: Mediocre, at best
X and Os: I read Coach K’s book “Beyond Basketball”, so I’m set there
Love of CV: Very High
Likelihood of accepting another coaching position: Incredibly low

Please have your people reach out to my people for inquiries
We need stability. Are you a stable person?
He posts on here..do you think he is stable? :)
He only has 226 posts. We need a larger sample size. Like a @ViAggie sample size?
I'm not interested in ViAggie's sample size.
But @Hoot might be interested.
I have coached a middle school girls basketball team.
