Arizona hired an assistant coach 3 years ago. Since then Arizona has been a 2 seed in the NCAA tournament twice and a 1 seed once.

I love Stew but even with my bias he didn't have quite the success that Steve Fisher had and unfortunately USU has not been as successful as SDSU has been, at least not this Century.LarryTheAggie wrote: ↑March 25th, 2024, 9:54 amSounds like Tim Duryea.Aggie in Boise wrote: ↑March 25th, 2024, 9:51 amUnder a legendary head coach that he assisted for a number of years.

Loyd and Dutcher were known as the best Assistant Coaches in the country for years with high level teams. If we can find that great but an unproven assistant no thanks, we can do better.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑March 25th, 2024, 10:00 amArizona hired an assistant coach 3 years ago. How long was Lloyd an assistant coach for at a legendary program under a legendary head coach? I would be on board with hiring that type of an assistant. Do you know where we can get one?Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑March 25th, 2024, 10:00 amArizona hired an assistant coach 3 years ago. Well let me squash it anyway. If he is Saint Louis's #1 target we aren't getting him. Saint Louis was paying their last coach they just fired over $2.5M. They've been paying their coach over $2M for the past 8 years.Aggie in Boise wrote: ↑March 25th, 2024, 10:08 amHe is slightly older than Sprinkle but younger than Smith and Odom. Re: Sprinkle's (possible) replacements
You could add Duke and UNC to the list of schools that recently hired an assistant and had success. But they also hired long-term assistants for legendary coaches. And even then, there is no guarantee that it works out. Mike Hopkins was Jim Boeheim's head coach in waiting for years before he finally took the Washington job because he got sick of waiting for Boeheim to retire. I wouldn't want to hire an assistant unless they had a similar pedigree to Dutcher/Lloyd/Scheyer/Davis.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑March 25th, 2024, 10:00 amArizona hired an assistant coach 3 years ago. More than anything else, this gives me optimism about our program going forward. He inherited a dumpster fire at both SUU and Bowling Green and turned both programs around quickly. If Todd Simon is our floor, we should be in very good hands. (I'm not trying to imply that Simon should be only a backup option; he may very well be the best candidate available. I'm just saying that if he wants the job, hopefully we can get him even if Sabau were to swing and miss on a couple other candidates.)aggies22 wrote: ↑March 25th, 2024, 6:49 amI've been told Todd Simon would jump at Utah State.FootballAgg wrote: ↑March 25th, 2024, 12:57 amI’m very very very high on Simon. I'm liking Todd Simon.
Coached at SUU --- knows how to recruit this area. He was successful there.
43 years old.
Knows the MWC. Coached at UNLV and Findlay Prep.
He'd be a solid hire.

Well, we for years listened to old Todd calling into the radio to criticize. Now instead we will get to hear "Todd should have this or that". Even though we now have the text line and having the analysts read the texts isn't the same as hearing the voices of the opinions of what went right or wrong in the happy or frustrated tones.

Re: Sprinkle's (possible) replacements
On the off chance that anyone in USU's administration reads this board, I have always said that the university that figures out a way to offer online degrees that is accessible and affordable to working adults without mass attrition and in a way that prevents cheating while become massively wealthy. Right now, even though something like 50-60% of college students are "non-traditional," almost all reputable universities assume that everyone is coming straight from high school and do nothing to meet the needs of students with jobs or families.Bullnamed_gus wrote: ↑March 25th, 2024, 9:49 amYeah that certain poster is an idiot!Aggie in Boise wrote: ↑March 25th, 2024, 9:47 amAs @StanfordAggie said: "Grand Canyon is basically a diploma mill that will give a degree to anyone who can write a check. This guy is very much like Sprinkle, plus he made the tournament the last 2 years, won a game this year. And has already been pain $10M+ from Vandy for 3 years of work. I like the work he's done at GCU. I hope he ends up as a legit finalist.
We just need to realize all of these guys are hungry for Tournament wins like we at Utah State are. They of course are going to take the $$ if it’s double triple the $$ we pay. It just is what it is.
Grand Canyon chartered a flight themselves and flew over 200 students to their NCAA tournament game in Spokane.
We aren't getting Bryce Drew.
Instead of resorting to increasing student fees, like a certain poster recommended, perhaps we should explore alternative avenues, such as transforming USU into a diploma mill, to ensure we have ample funds available for investing in athletics?
On a serious note, I don’t know if we want to be seen as a diploma mill, but there probably are ways to increase enrollment across the state and surrounding areas.
Perhaps giving In-State tuition to
Anyone, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Nevada and Arizona could be a good start. Maybe a discount to Out of State tuition for anyone in Montana, Oregon, Washington, etc.and that’s including adding “USU -Extension” Campuses in Idaho, Arizona, etc. (not even Sure if that’s possible but just spitballing here)
GCU and Liberty are printing barrels of money even though their degrees are not particularly affordable nor rigorous simply because they are one of the few players in this arena. Almost all online degree programs are for profit programs that simply try to suck in as much federal financial aid money as possible. They don't care at all if their students drop out or learn anything. If a major university started offering affordable online degrees but required students to take exams in person and hired a large number of tutors/counselors to make sure that their students pass their classes and stay on track to graduate, there is an absolutely massive market that is currently untapped. USU, if you reading this message, make this happen. (Or if you are an investor and want to hire me to run your higher education startup, DM me. lol!)

Re: Sprinkle's (possible) replacements
It will be pretty easy for me to find out if we've called. Give me a bit.2004AG wrote: ↑March 25th, 2024, 10:40 amWhat are the chances Simon ends up being the coach ?aggies22 wrote:Although I said it earlier, I'll double-down here as well.Intermeddler wrote: ↑March 25th, 2024, 10:36 amSimon would 100% take the job and be here for a long time if he got it.StanfordAggie wrote: ↑March 25th, 2024, 10:35 amMore than anything else, this gives me optimism about our program going forward. He inherited a dumpster fire at both SUU and Bowling Green and turned both programs around quickly. If Todd Simon is our floor, we should be in very good hands. Re: Sprinkle's (possible) replacements
I’d like to throw my hat in the ring
Coaching Experience: 0 years (not even Jr. Jazz)
Recruiting: Mediocre, at best
X and Os: I read Coach K’s book “Beyond Basketball”, so I’m set there
Love of CV: Very High
Likelihood of accepting another coaching position: Incredibly low
Please have your people reach out to my people for inquiries
