Re: SELECTION SUNDAY WATCH PARTY
Seems like this has been brought up the last few years and is a missed opportunity by the athletic department.
Let the fans celebrate with the team. You want more NIL money, then give fans the chance to enjoy the success of where there cash is going.
Charge $5, $10, $20, whatever, have some food, drinks, some Aggie gear for sale, and the chance to buy tourney tickets.

Yeah, like I'm going to pay $10 bucks to hang out with professional athletes so they can drive a Lexus to the Spectrum on game day.
Have at it if you want, but count me out. I have two non-athletic kids I'm trying to get through college on my dime.

I get it, and maybe it's not for everyone. But why not do something?FloridaAggie13 wrote:Yeah, like I'm going to pay $10 bucks to hang out with professional athletes so they can drive a Lexus to the Spectrum on game day.

Years ago they'd host it at the country club and anyone was welcome. Seems like an easy way to engage the fans with the team.
They could have some items for sale or hang out.

Yeah, I didn't mean to jump in and be a buzzkill. It probably is a good way to raise a few thousand dollars and engage the community with the team.usufan1 wrote: ↑March 17th, 2024, 3:05 pmI get it, and maybe it's not for everyone. Re: SELECTION SUNDAY WATCH PARTY
Remember the old UNLV teams where the players were getting new cars and wined and dined? Remember why we disliked them so much for it? Yep. They weren't like the rest of us students. They were spoiled brats who were cheating. Now they may not be cheating but they're taking advantage of the system. And before anyone rapes my post claiming that universities take advantage of players, can we find some place in the middle where the players don't have a massive sense of entitlement and actually have to earn their way? And can we find a middle ground where universities respect that players have a very busy schedule and don't have time for a side job to get themselves some food on the table? And maybe even allow them to opt out of a long term contract when both parties agree to it? And, yes, they should have to commit long term of that is part of the contract and learn to grin and bear it when they're not being coddled.FloridaAggie13 wrote: ↑March 17th, 2024, 2:53 pmYeah, like I'm going to pay $10 bucks to hang out with professional athletes so they can drive a Lexus to the Spectrum on game day.

I don't want the players to be taken advantage of where the universities, EA Sports, and Nike all make billions of their names and images while the player isn't allowed to because he's technically an amateur. However, the current state of affairs is completely ludicrous and outrageous. Contracts should be in place and enforced, as you said.

Greg did make a lot of money from his t-shirt business. But he wasn’t on scholarship then. He could only do one or the other, so he went with his business.FloridaAggie13 wrote:Kohn Smith told me Greg Anthony pulled up to the T&M in a BMW.AggieFBObsession wrote: ↑March 17th, 2024, 3:23 pmRemember the old UNLV teams where the players were getting new cars and wined and dined?
