UNM -- curse of the sexy upset pick. Getting freaking rolllllled.
Today's games are really helping me manage my expectations for tonight.
MW wins so far are against a team that had ZERO business being in the tourney and against a bid-stealer from the AAC. Let that sink in.

Re: MW watch party
It's a compromise. Somebody could easily say that AQ teams shouldn't be playing in the play-in and that all four games should be at-large teams. I think the fact that winners of the play-in still get full credits is good for the 16 seeds.blueaggie wrote: ↑March 22nd, 2024, 2:27 pmThanks. It makes absolutely no sense. 10 seeds should no be playing a play in game.Zaggie07 wrote: ↑March 22nd, 2024, 2:18 pmThe last four at-large teams and the lowest seeded AQ teams are in the play-in games.blueaggie wrote: ↑March 22nd, 2024, 2:16 pmBet yet the SEC and big 12 performance will not be forgotten? Fun fact, the creation of the Mountain West is what ultimately led to the play-in games

Re: MW watch party
Unless you think of them as two separate things....then it does make sense. 2 of those four teams would have been left out but when they expanded to 68, they added 4 more at large by giving the lowest 4 a mini tournament and the lowest 4 Conference champs also became play in games. 16 seed play in games aren't Bubble teamsblueaggie wrote: ↑March 22nd, 2024, 2:27 pmThanks. Re: MW watch party
This year the last 4 at large teams had a "better" profile than some of the upset AQ teams which drove the play in seed to the 10 line instead of 11 or 12.

Re: MW watch party
It's been this way for several years now and makes a lot of sense. Anyone 11-16 were automatic qualifiers for their conferences but deemed to be of lower quality than anyone 10 and above. Those 10 seed play-in games were the worst perceived at-large bids.blueaggie wrote: ↑March 22nd, 2024, 2:27 pmThanks. It is still 2 wins. If the conference gets one more that is 3 wins out of 6 which is not terrible.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑March 22nd, 2024, 2:29 pmUNM -- curse of the sexy upset pick. Getting freaking rolllllled.

Agreed - I wasn't sure they'd win, but I didn't think Clemson would have the game wrapped up this early. NM never even made a run.

I get the sense that this is the general feeling of the entire board. There is no anticipation or excitement in here. The feeling that another, typical, disappointing Aggie performance and loss is fait accompli.

Re: MW watch party
This is a pitiful performance by UNM.
I filled out two brackets this year. For one I filled out strictly by KenPom rankings. For the other, I used strictly NET rankings. UNM was better in both metrics.

Funny that Jaelen House was reffed in the actual tournament like he should be all year. He should have fouled out of every game with 8 minutes to go in the second half.

Re: MW watch party
Except tons of p5 teams get away with it every year in the tourney too
But yeah that did seem to be an issue for them, MW refs didn’t want to call 50 fouls a game so they let his style of D go

I will tell you guys what San Diego State must be living right off the court. Two times in a row they get a 13th seed in the second round. Man it would be awesome to have that type of opportunity.

Re: MW watch party
The SEC is doing worse than the Mountain West by a long shot. They got 8 teams into the tournament. Every one of those teams was favored except for 9 seed Texas A&M which is pretty much a wash. The results are as follows:
3 seed Kentucky loses to 14 seed Oakland
4 seed Auburn loses to 13 seed Yale
6 seed S. Carolina loses to 11 seed Oregon
7 seed Florida loses to 10 seed Colorado
8 seed Mississippi State loses to 9 seed Michigan State
2 seed Tennessee beat 15 seed St. Peter
4 seed Alabama has yet to play
9 seed Texas A&M has yet to play

I mean credit to SDSU for winning, but it sure seems like the NCAA Tourney spreads its legs for SDSU in ways it does not for other MW members.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑March 22nd, 2024, 5:07 pmI will tell you guys what San Diego State must be living right off the court. I don't disagree with that unfortunately they've been more consistent than anybody else in the conference at winning some tournament game so they're reaping the rewards of it. I can only dream that one day the Aggies might be in their position.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑March 22nd, 2024, 5:35 pmI mean credit to SDSU for winning, but it sure seems like the NCAA Tourney spreads its legs for SDSU in ways it does not for other MW members.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑March 22nd, 2024, 5:07 pmI will tell you guys what San Diego State must be living right off the court. If you sum the seed of each opponent a team faced in one NCAA tourney, has any team encountered a higher sum than SDSU did last year?
Last year SDSU played a 12, 13, 1, 6, 9, 4 -> 45
This year is starting well for them too, 12, 13…
