Josers are getting gutted. Amey is in the portal along with Cardenas, Gorener, and Humer.
That sucks for SJSU. Oh, well. A chance to build from the ground up through the portal for them. We know how that is. They need to find guys that aren't aware that they have zero fan support. The off season is a good time to recruit.

I guess Miles won't be able to bring anyone with him.

Here is the part that kinda frustrates me, and all I have to go on is what is said in this forum. I understand that Sprinkle wishes there was more NIL in the coffers, but I also understand people being hesitant to donate because we haven’t had a stable coach or team for a long time. If Sprinkle really does leave because of a lack of NIL, can’t he see that in this community that if he stayed, more people would be willing to put into the collective? If we had a stable coach, the player carousel could go round and round, but we would have confidence in a coach that could pull the right pieces together.

Image if the AGGIES sink millions of dollars into getting good players only to end up with a coach like Duryea.
Someone should tell this to Sprinkle at the next coach's meeting.

I don't know where this guy thinks he's going. My guess is it will be a pretty big step down in team/league quality.

I imagine most MWC teams will have most of their rosters in the portal in the coming weeks.

I'm sure you are right. It will be hard to replicate the depth of competition that we have witnessed in the MWC this year. Instead of building on the momentum of 6 teams in the tourney, a lot of teams (maybe us included) will be starting from scratch. Every year will be a completely different conference.

Seems like if you're a player at any school not giving out a 7-figure NIL you should enter the portal to see what your options are - not unlike the testing the waters for the NBA situation.

7 figures? Do people really think that the NIL is that high except for a couple guys...

if you are getting 7 figure NIL money why would you leave? The odds of getting more are slim to none.

How depressing will it be if the conference goes 1-6 in the tournament, and then loses some coaches and top players.

Wait so Miles followed one of the only actual good years of his career with a 10th place MW finish followed by a mass exodus by every player with a shred of talent on that roster? And people want to hire him?

If this group of transfers could form a team they'd be pretty dang good. Cardenas, Amey Jr, Wenzel, Petritis, and Boakye at center.

It's hard to feel bad for the other teams getting gutted when we are likely to experience the same fate. At this point, I'm just hoping to retain enough of the roster that there's not the perception that it's this impossible uphill battle for the next coach to win, and possible for him to impress bigger schools by doing anything less than winning in the tournament.
I know I have said this before, but I still think if we had been able to retain just one of Bairstow or Shulga, even if it also meant not bringing in Martinez or Darius, there's no big story made about us returning 0 points, a preseason pick higher than 9th, and Danny doing what he has done in the regular season is too small of a sample size for Washington to be interested.

If we were to keep everything intact, Amy would be a great replacement for Brown.

Lol no sane person wants mediocre miles. The one guy on here who wants him spent the football season demanding we fire a mw championship coach. That same poster would go insane if mediocre miles was our coach and would change his tune in a hurry when he experienced the results of that decision.

I'd take Amey, but it would depend on who we lose, he isn't a point guard so we'd have to lose someone to make room for him. And when Amey says he has been contacted by USU does that mean Washington as an extension of that?

For everyone else in the transfer portal I'd probably pass on everyone but Petraitis. I'd expect we can find plenty of transfers in other conferences, even if it is smaller conferences with a guy looking to show that he can ball out to get a big NIL at a P5 school next year, just like our coaches do. With some of these guys in the portal I don't know where they expect they will land that will be a step up.

Honestly, rather than having people go to the transfer portal it should just be a one year free agent gig and then you have to rerecruit and cobble together a new team every year from scratch. Then we wouldn't have to wait for the announcements to trickle in.

In this new environment, do we expect almost every player on every team to enter the portal every year?

Some will be disappointed when they find their market value isn’t what they hoped. I suspect for others, they will hear some interesting offers and maybe it gives them more leverage to land a better deal at their current school. :noidea:

The only players that shouldn't would be ones at a high-major with a killer NIL and those that are at their max capacity as a player i.e. couldn't do any better, but could do much worse.

As we see every year in this new environment lots of players enter the transfer but upwards of 25-30% never find a place to sign. Players should be really careful about entering as it can all come crumbling down really quick and they are left with no place to play and university picking up their education costs.

NCAA is now just a reality show. New cast every year you have to learn and cheer for.

That's the best descriptor I've seen. Occasionally the cast might all stay for an all-star reunion season.

JT Toppin will be next. By the way, UNM spends the most of any in the conference on basketball.
