Meh. As long as the fans don't leave and the Spectrum doesn't collapse, we'll be fine. Any coach with a pulse and the internet will win 20 games a year here and then go somewhere else so they can have all of their future Marches free to watch the tourney on the couch with the rest of us.

I said prospective coaches here had to have TWO things. He did have the internet. He didn't have a pulse. We complained about that on here for years.ususports wrote: ↑March 22nd, 2024, 7:41 pmWhy didn’t Duryea have the internet?Ahbye wrote: ↑March 22nd, 2024, 7:38 pmMeh. Re: Sprinkle to Washington
That’s because that’s the balance of his contract. Can’t really go above that without making that provision unenforceable.
I haven’t heard anything that makes me think sprinkle isn’t going to Washington but Pope does desperately want that job
Re: Sprinkle to Washington
After tonight, $4M per year isn’t enough. He’s worth $5M per year! Washington better sweeten the offer or another school will sweep in and grab him!

That seems to be the usual path. Maybe Boise will be sophisticated enough for Madam Odom. They could find a nice restaurant where she can bellow "Garcon!" to bring over the help.Aggie in Boise wrote: ↑March 22nd, 2024, 11:32 pmMe too. Screw Smith and Odom! Re: Sprinkle to Washington
Agreed, I obviously want him to stay as he could take USU to another level and literally be a legend in Logan but if he leaves he brought us one of the most memorable seasons we could imagine. The cherry on top was the win tonight. It was a dominating performance which left no room for who the better team was. Sprinkle had the team as ready as i have seen any Aggie team in that type of environment. I am just so happy to finally see the Aggies get the tournament victory.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑March 22nd, 2024, 11:30 pmSprinkle now has my blessing if he wants to go to UW. Re: Sprinkle to Washington
My source, who I'm happy to disclose personally to anyone who actually knows me, says that UW now favors Kyle Smith, that Danny will still be targeted by other teams with openings, but there is a full court press on him to wait until next year when much better jobs potentially open. This would likely come with a higher salary for him and less punitive buyout.
I don't know if I believe it but people closer to the situation than me believe UW is out of play.

Are you saying that the new contract offer from USU has a lower buyout than the current contract?rAggie wrote: ↑March 23rd, 2024, 1:47 amMy source, who I'm happy to disclose personally to anyone who actually knows me, says that UW now favors Kyle Smith, that Danny will still be targeted by other teams with openings, but there is a full court press on him to wait until next year when much better jobs potentially open. Re: Sprinkle to Washington
I'm just so glad that Danny brought us a win with the possibility of going to sweet 16 if he could pull it off. I would love to have him stay, and we absolutely should do our very best to improve his contract to entice him to stay, but he just put USU in an even better place for future success if he chooses to go somewhere else.
I would have been a little more bitter about him leaving if USU would have lost and he just bailed.

Re: Sprinkle to Washington
There is a clear trade-off. You move when your stock is highest, or you wait and hope your stock is good enough to get a better job. The stock and marketability of coaches goes up and down a lot faster than the stock market.slcagg wrote: ↑March 23rd, 2024, 7:29 amHe has the chance to get a top tier p5 job. I'm actually really smart, probably smarter than you are so if you disagree with what I have stated in this post, you are likely wrong (and dumb).

Pope COULD be out now that the AD at Washington is out. The Washington State AD and Kyle Smith could be a package deal. I'll see if I can find anything out.bpd wrote: ↑March 23rd, 2024, 10:00 amLOL. Re: Sprinkle to Washington
WSU fans would probably take that deal. Sacrifice Smith to get rid of Chun. I know he is well respected in the industry, but wazzu fans really don't like Chun, and are apathetic enough about basketball that they would probably be fine with it.aggies22 wrote: ↑March 23rd, 2024, 10:27 amPope COULD be out now that the AD at Washington is out. Re: Sprinkle to Washington
Are we saying that Sprinkle wouldn’t even sign his extension, but he would still stay here another year to wait for a better job and lower his buyout? There’s no way that new extension has a lower buyout, right?

I was told the new extension has a larger buyout. It would be foolish not to sign the extension and earn as much money as possible.EngineeringAggie wrote: ↑March 23rd, 2024, 10:49 amAre we saying that Sprinkle wouldn’t even sign his extension, but he would still stay here another year to wait for a better job and lower his buyout? My opinion is that of the open jobs, Louisville is by far the most attractive and one you can’t pass up. Interesting insight into the state of Washington basketball:
https://www.si.com/college/washington/b ... ing-search
I went to a football game up there once and walked by the arena - It looks like it's a 100 years old and not in a good way! It'd be a herculean project to turn that program around. Stay at USU (at least) one more year with a STACKED team and wait until UCLA or USC or the like to come calling.

Re: Sprinkle to Washington
If Sprinkle leaves I'll have no strong feelings about him either way.
He won because he's a good coach at a healthy program. That's fine, but if he's only here one year I'm barely going to remember his name in two years. But if he stays a few years... Hey I still respect what Gary Andersen did here, even with how the next decade went. I respect it because for those first 4 years, man - what a fun program to follow!
