This process illustrates to me that a number of posters have excellent sources. When Aggies22, whom we all respect, indicated Pope to Washington, a number of us were like, wait, wut as we still had Sprinkle to Washington.
Next surprise is going to be the Washington contract - it's jaw dropping.

Some of you are the most pathetic jilted lovers. He gave TCU the worst loss of the season. He didn't check out in the one day between games. He came to an agreement with Washington a month ago. Purdue was just a lot better than us.

Re: Sprinkle to Washington
Sprinkle was a hard guy to read. At first, he seemed like a very likable guy because he didn't talk in "coach speak" with the same generic one-liners we have come to expect. He told it straight and appeared to be genuinely happy to be the next part of this place with so much basketball tradition and success. He smiled and greeted people and had a positive vibe about him.
By the last month or so of the regular season he just seemed aloof. He stared blankly into the distance during interviews and stated the same things over and over. Like others mentioned, after big wins he didn't appear like he was all that happy either. It was as if he had no personal tie to USU or skin in the game, even if it were just joy for his players and their success. When asked questions about USU, he constantly referred to the university as "they" and "them" in his responses. He never used "our" and "we" when talking about the program. It was like he was commenting on someone else's program or someone else's arena or team.
Maybe this was his intention from the beginning and he saw himself as nothing more than an outsider that was a temporary steward of the program? Maybe the success came so fast that he just never had the time to really become attached to the school or program? In any case, for all the success the players brought - it would be nice to know he genuinely enjoyed his time in Logan. My guess is that he'll leave us with one last generic statement telling us all the things we want to hear but it will have all the emotion of a cardboard box.

The TCU victory set Sprinkle back two days on recruiting the portal for Washington. He should have resigned and let Andy Hill coach vs. Purdue.QuackAttackAggie wrote: ↑March 25th, 2024, 11:37 amSome of you are the most pathetic jilted lovers. Re: Sprinkle to Washington
Yep, I'm guessing we will get one more grand public statement from Sprinkle.
Something along the lines of, "I don't like ya, I love ya!"
Then, it's wheels up and off to Seattle.
It just is what it is. If I am an up and coming young coach, and someone is offering generational wealth to me and my family in exchange for the opportunity to give it a go at the highest levels of competitive College Basketball, I am not sure how or why you say no.
It stinks, but this is the reality of College Athletics as it is currently constructed.

Re: Sprinkle to Washington
I don't have any problem at all with Sprinkle taking the money. I have a huge problem with a system that doesn't have extremely punitive tampering rules and that allows any negotiations before the championship is complete. If antitrust legislation is needed the NCAA needs to lobby for it. Its only a drop in the bucket of where that needs to lead but it would be a good start. It really is a bush league system that allows that with all the money including gambling that is affected by this (I can't express myself without swearing).OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑March 25th, 2024, 11:32 am1000% Nobody can deny he checked the fu*k out. This whole (I can't express myself without swearing) of generational wealth is getting old though. I mean 2 million a year for 5 years is plenty, if you’re not a total dumbass.

Nah, he won’t say jack. He’s a an almighty Huskie now. I’m just trying to wrap my head that he was only here one year. Does that happen a lot? I think Washington rushed the hire, and this is going to turn into Craig Smith 2.0 for them.

Re: Sprinkle to Washington
I've been a loyal Aggie fan my whole life, but after these past two seasons I'm pretty much a band wagon fan. My loyal fandom emotions have been messed with too much. It's unfortunate, the big elites are slowly destroying the non-hats in the mall universities.
Up until last week I didn't even know what Danny Sprinkles voice sounded like. That's how disinterested I was in him. I knew his time here was going to be short lived.

They’re all lying assholes. I know “nobody cares” but I’m done with college sports. I’ll renew my football tickets for one more year but that’s it.
I’ll take my “generational wealth” elsewhere.

Re: Sprinkle to Washington
You are correct, and that's all the more reason why Sprinkle should take the generational money when it's offered to him. This was an incredibly special season and much of the credit goes to Danny for the team he put together and how he got them all to buy in so quickly, but we also had a lot of bounces go our way throughout the season. That's not to discredit anything that we achieved, but that's the reality. It's entirely possible that he could have put together an even more talented roster next year and not enjoyed the same success he did this year simply due to those bounces going the other way. Just ask Jeff Linder at Wyoming, having a successful season and running it back the next year with even more raw talent is not a guarantee for future success.Winning Team wrote: ↑March 25th, 2024, 12:19 pmI've been saying this for a while.
