I'm pretty sure he just announced his retirement as they ended Aggie call.

Al Lewis stepping away

Post by Aglicious » March 24th, 2024, 4:29 pm

Al Lewis announcing today on Aggie Call that this is it for him and that it is time for him to step away from Aggie coverage moving forward.

For many of us, he will always be the voice of the Aggies. Sad to see the end of an era.

Also sad that Al got word during the post game show that his sick mother had passed away.

Condolences to you Al. Thank you for all the great years and wonderful calls and catchphrases that have become a part of Aggie lore.

Are they taking applications to replace Al?

Absolutely. I don’t know if anyone has been as dedicated to Aggie sports for as long as Al.

The one bright spot is that I hope with this announcement it will allow him to start going to Aggie Games. It sounds like he has to stay in studio during games. That would kill me.

That's a huge loss. Love him or hate him he will be missed.

I personally loved listening to him scream over the game!

Someone mentioned that his mom just passed away? I feel terrible for him.

Count me as one of those who loved hearing Al Lewis call games. Confusing at times, yes, but loved it none-the-less.

Who hates Al Lewis???

He isn't my favorite announcer, but that man is an AGGIE... More dudes like Al would be a great thing for the Aggies.

Hate is probably the wrong phrase. Hated his play by play. I'm doubting anyone disliked him as an Aggie.

Loved Al's voice. It was a ton better than all the other guys they tried as replacements. Scotty G is a good replacement. No bigger Aggie fan than Al.
