Todd Simon - Bowling Green
Now that we have discussed 3-4 candidates for the job (Tim Miles, Andy Hill, Tod Kowalczyk, Todd Simon) here are a few point for my advocation of Todd Simon.
Young (43 years old)
Would like to be in Logan (Rumored)
Ties to the West more specifically Utah
Follows the blue print of Smith, Odom, and Sprinkle
Took a historically awful SUU team to three straight 20 win season (Which is not easy to do in Cedar City Utah)
Took a 20 loss Bowling Green team to a 20 Win Team and was a few points shy of making the tournament this year.
Would love all of your input on this option.

Simon has players that he could bring and was able to recruit really well to Cedar City. Both are huge plusses.

We could certainly do worse. He 100% wants the job and would be here long term if it worked.

Re: Todd Simon - Bowling Green
To me a guy that can recruit and succeed at SUU is a much more attractive trait than someone who could just keep current players. Nothing against Hill, but retention of current players in this day and age is not a big plus, IMO.

He knows utah culture from his time at suu, he knows the MWC from his time at UNLV, he's proven he can recruit and win in tough places. I'm sold.Intermeddler wrote: ↑March 25th, 2024, 1:58 pmWe could certainly do worse. He 100% wants the job and would be here long term if it worked.

I also recall alot of his success at Suu was due to landing transfers. Important in this day and age.

Re: Todd Simon - Bowling Green
Just looking at the Bowling Green roster, my guess is we'd be interested in Marcus Hill (looks like a volume scorer that doesn't shoot particularly well), but just about every other player on the roster that contributed looks to have been a senior this year. Maybe a few have a COVID year to use?

Looking at the coaches that have been rumored I think i like Simon the most. His work at SUU is really impressive, that is not an easy place to have success at. Love his western ties in coaching here for a decade.

Toledo has a far more interesting crop of players, IMO. Shouldn't drive the bus, but it's absolutely a factor.

I GUARANTEE Todd Simon would like to get the Utah State gig. How's that for squashing the rumor?FootballAgg wrote: ↑March 25th, 2024, 1:53 pmNow that we have discussed 3-4 candidates for the job (Tim Miles, Andy Hill, Tod Kowalczyk, Todd Simon) here are a few point for my advocation of Todd Simon.

Skepticism is appropriate, but I think there is more validity to it with Todd than others.EngineeringAggie wrote: ↑March 25th, 2024, 2:06 pmI was told that Sprinkle was somebody that would want to be here long term when he was hired.Intermeddler wrote: ↑March 25th, 2024, 1:58 pmWe could certainly do worse. This would be absolutely killer. Give Simon 600-750 and the rest of supposed 2 mil that was going to Sprinkle for assistant pay to keep Hill and Halsam around while also getting Dixon.

Re: Todd Simon - Bowling Green
I mentioned this on the other thread, but Simon started his coaching career as an assistant at Findlay Prep. And supposedly he was a big part of the reason that Dave Rice managed to sign several top 10 classes at UNLV. If he still has ties to Findlay Prep and could bring some of those players to Logan, that would be pretty amazing.

The case seems open and shut to me at this point. Unless we get a COTY semifinalist to come here, I’m all in on a Simon and Dixon coaching staff.

Re: Todd Simon - Bowling Green
Simon would be logical pick with his consistent winning with teams that are hard to win with.
Like Sprinkle, Simon could bring good players with him.
I wonder if Simon could get Dave Rice as assistant coach.

Re: Todd Simon - Bowling Green
I don't think it will be Simon. I think we're getting the alphabet soup guy from Toledo based on the early buzz. We're the only ones even talking about Simon as an option.
And unless Andy Hill can keep everyone on the roster, I don't want him either.
