Re: Press Conference Tuesday
Would have been much happier with Todd Simon or Andy Hill. Those guys at least have some local connections and are probably hungrier to make a name for themselves. I'm not seeing a huge upside with this guy. I mean isn't Toledo one of the better athletic programs in the MAC and he has never made an NCAA Tournament???
Re: Press Conference Tuesday
Thoroughly unimpressed by Diana if we actually had a month + to look for candidates, dumped money into a search firm, then came up with a guy near retirement who has never coached a tournament game.MetsJetsAggies wrote: ↑March 28th, 2024, 12:48 pmYeah this feels like an AD from Ohio that made the wrong choice for a school in Utah

Let's get pissed. The guy has only won the league for 4 straight years.
Kind of like Danny Sprinkle or Craig Smith or Ryan Odom.FootballAgg wrote: ↑March 28th, 2024, 12:49 pmWhat is enticing about him in Utah ???

CALM DOWN, EVERYONE.
Diana chose one of three 6/10 options. It's (I can't express myself without swearing) fine.

Re: Press Conference Tuesday
Maybe I missed it, but when did we hire a search firm? I saw that we were conducting a national search, but I never saw that we hired a committee. Again, maybe I kissed that announcementshoresy wrote: ↑March 28th, 2024, 12:51 pmThoroughly unimpressed by Diana if we actually had a month + to look for candidates, dumped money into a search firm, then came up with a guy near retirement who has never coached a tournament game.MetsJetsAggies wrote: ↑March 28th, 2024, 12:48 pmYeah this feels like an AD from Ohio that made the wrong choice for a school in Utah

Yeah I heard it was. Seems like someone was fed some fake news somewhere. But then other items with the BG players hitting the portal, BG fans hearing on their side he was gone, and our men’s bball Twitter following him and assistants, etc.
Maybe he was seemingly the guy and then it fell through.

Somebody reported it on here. 95% sure it was 22 who said that, so I trust it.usugoalie13 wrote: ↑March 28th, 2024, 12:58 pmMaybe I missed it, but when did we hire a search firm? I'm excited to see what whoever the new coach is can get done. The Spectrum and our BBall culture has a way of elevating coaches (besides TD ) Fun times, to be sure!

Retirement? 3 Years? The way college sports is, I'd take 3 years haha. Plus, who gets to retire at 60 these days? Stew made it to 62 ish and this guys 57....so maybe he'll be awesome and give us 5 years...FootballAgg wrote: ↑March 28th, 2024, 12:46 pmBoring hire the banishes us to the same mediocrity as Toledo. The dude is 3 years way from retirement, has zero energy to push a program beyond where is ever been. No ties to the west. No recruiting power. THIS IS A TERRIBLE HIRE. And it’s because sabua is a bad AD that went with a coach from her hometown. She is going to run this university into the mud. It’s already started.

Re: Press Conference Tuesday
That wasn't the point of my post. Age is a number. How old was Dutcher when he was hired at SDSU? Stew's last few years he did have some bad habits but he was still putting out good teams in a new harder conference even. I'm just saying the age argument feels silly. Seems like we are all burnt out on coaches coming and going so fast and then we get one who's been a head coach for 22 years at 2 schools and we complain. Seems like a loyal guy.aggie4L wrote: ↑March 28th, 2024, 3:14 pmStew's last 5 years weren't his best 5 years.kofdog wrote: ↑March 28th, 2024, 2:48 pmRetirement? 3 Years? Re: Press Conference Tuesday
I would have thought that we could pull in someone with a bit more buzz and excitement. This hire doesn't really excite me all that much and more or less agree on the 6/10 on the excitement level. His age is a mild concern but also means he probably doesn't voluntarily jump elsewhere in 2-3 years, which is a plus. His regular season success is extremely solid but the sparse post-season experience is a little concerning.
It will be interesting to see: (1) who can he keep from this last season; (2) did Mason catch wind of the hire and then enter the portal (meaning his likely gone if so); (3) how well can he recruit outside of the region where he has ever coached before; and (4) what are the contract terms.

All the coaches that had real buzz this cycle would have been making a lateral move or downgrade by coming to USU.bwcrc wrote: ↑March 28th, 2024, 4:51 pmI would have thought that we could pull in someone with a bit more buzz and excitement. Agree. Bovee found us Sprinkle without and it ended up being a grand slam hire. Why do I get the feeling this time it is going to be much different??
