Agreed, i think it is perfect for the experience that Calhoun brings. He was making 300k at YSU so now he tripled it to 925K. We also showed that if a coach has success and wants to sign a more lucrative contract that USU is willing to do it. I don't think starting Calhoun at like 1.5 million was necessary.scotlandog wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 10:37 amWin and it could be doubled. Re: Jerrod Calhoun!!!
If USU fires him it's 75% of remaining salary. If he leaves after 1 year he owes 80% of what's left and after that it drops to 60%.Bullnamed_gus wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 10:34 amWhat’s the buyout?ProvoAggie wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 10:30 am5 year deal, $625k base salary with a $25k raise each year. $300k in annual media rights. Re: Jerrod Calhoun!!!
Also, there is a $220k bump in assistant coach salaries. I'm gonna let @treesap32 do a full breakdown of it.

Re: Jerrod Calhoun!!!
That is as important as the head coaches salaries IMO. That will really help recruit/retain solid assistant coaches.ProvoAggie wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 11:01 amAlso, there is a $220k bump in assistant coach salaries. I'm gonna let @treesap32 do a full breakdown of it.

Re: Jerrod Calhoun!!!
Isn't that on Hoffman since he is over media relations? Certainly was not well put together. Oh well, gives Calhoun more time to get to work at keeping the current players and finalizing his staff. The Old Bull wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 11:37 amYeah nice to have somebody around that has figured out how to broadcast a press conference.

I don’t know whose responsibility it was... but it was the most noticeable part of the production.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 11:40 amIsn't that on Hoffman since he is over media relations? Re: Jerrod Calhoun!!!
If he has the success requisite for USU to give him a big bump then some other school will notice him and give him double what we will and then he is gone since the buyout is so manageable given his salary.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 10:40 amAgreed, i think it is perfect for the experience that Calhoun brings. I agree starting him at $1.5 is not necessary but it allows you to set the buyout if he leaves much much higher which may deter a number of schools and you could negotiate the buyout if we fire him down relative to the total number to protect us if he is bad.

No mention of charters that I saw. Up to $350k in bonuses.shoresy wrote:Do we have the full contract, or just figures?
Curious if there are any added incentives like charter flights or big bonuses attached.

Re: Jerrod Calhoun!!!
I would think that Youngstown State is strapped for cash enough that he got used to having to fly commercial everywhere and consider it nice to get to charter to even 2 or 3 games. Then again, maybe he would ALSO know what it's like to get to charter everywhere with Cincinatti and West Virginia and consider not the same as what those schools get to do. Danny for instance complained about not getting to charter more when you would have expected him to be used to having to fly commercial everywhere with Montana State, Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Northridge.

Is there a fixed amount of staff he can hire?ProvoAggie wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 11:01 amAlso, there is a $220k bump in assistant coach salaries. I'm gonna let @treesap32 do a full breakdown of it.
Or is it up to his discretion how to break that salary pool down?

Re: Jerrod Calhoun!!!
I am not entirely sure, but it used to be you had 3 assistants, a director of basketball ops and like a video coordinator. In January of 2023 they changed the rules so you can have 2 more assistants but those assistants could not participate in off campus recruiting. So 5 assistants but 2 of them are limited. Plus the other guys like basketball ops.trevordude wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 6:50 pmIs there a fixed amount of staff he can hire?ProvoAggie wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 11:01 amAlso, there is a $220k bump in assistant coach salaries. Re: Jerrod Calhoun!!!
Similar to what was offered to Sprinkle when he came onboard and I'm ok with that. Some would want to use the buyout of Sprinkle to increase the coach pay to $1.2-1.3M but it would be a bad thing to pay that for a coach that doesn't pan out. Let's see what he can do first and then renegotiate and pay more.ProvoAggie wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 10:54 amIf I understand it correctly I believe this is the breakdown:hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 10:48 amProvoAggie wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 10:41 amIf USU fires him it's 75% of remaining salary. That was the same plan for Sprinkle, but we were all surprised how well he did in year one that it hit us like a whirlwind when other institutions were talking to him.

Re: Jerrod Calhoun!!!
Okay we gotta chill with the Wynott glazing. He is a great shooter which would be nice to have on the team but he is playing against the worst basketball teams ever. His offense would be nice but the dude could never stay in front of a guy like falslev. I mean I hope he comes cause he's got the what if factor in my mind. But he ain't anywhere near the best recruit we have ever landed.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑March 29th, 2024, 9:10 pmYou are absolutely drunk. This is a 1A Idaho High School player that will be lucky to be a D1 player at all. I was not drinking the Wynott Kool-aid. 6. Johnson
7. Laub
8. Assistant coaches
9. The rest of the players

wynott didn't even get an offer from Boise state. we are the best school that offered him a scholarship by a mile.
