My source suggested the same thing after picking him out of a lineup.

Sorry. Be patient with me. I haven't been keeping up as well as I could have.
I only bring it up because I know a guy who knows a guy... who told me today that it looks like he may be the guy...

Did very well at D2 Fairmont State and doing well at Youngstown State
The concerns are the lack of going anywhere outside of Midwest and low-level college basketball.

Re: Jerrod Calhoun from Youngstown State?
I posted in another thread but his background is really similar to Craig's background before coming to USU. My only reservation would be connections to recruiting in the West but he looks like a really up and coming coach. I would be satisfied if he is the coach.

Re: Jerrod Calhoun from Youngstown State?
He was an assistant at WV for 5 years. In terms of our previous 3 coaches they came from the summit, America east and big sky. Those are all similar to the horizon league.
Re: Jerrod Calhoun from Youngstown State?
Feels a little more risky than some of the other names, but I think I'm on board. He's turned two pretty poor programs into winners, and I much prefer his style of play to either of the Tod(d)s.

I was worried about Tod Kowalczyk. Iβm glad heβs not going to be announced. Jerrod Calhoun is fine, even if his last name reminds me of a football coach Iβm not fond of.

I keep coming back to Sabau saying diversity and a diverse staff, and Calhoun nor his staff check that box.

Craig Smith came as a quick turnaround at South Dakota (even got in the NIT) and former assistant coach at Colorado State.

This a smoke screen. Diana is actually going to go to another Ohio connection, Sam Merrill. Sam is leaving the NBA because he realized Utah State can pay him more than the Cavs.

This would be the most exciting hire of all. It would probably take Samwise the Brave a few years to establish connections and recruit and win, but I literally would trust him with my life.
Maybe in 10-15 yearsβ¦

NIT and CBI. Calhoun has similar experience; 1 NIT, 1 TBC and 1 CIT appearance that got cancelled due to COVID. He improved every year at Youngstown (except for a 2 year drop right after COVID).SLB wrote: βMarch 29th, 2024, 6:47 pmhttps://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... akota-iowaChicagoAggie wrote: βMarch 29th, 2024, 6:45 pmCraig did not have NCAA post season experience at South Dakota. Is retaining Haslam and Brown. Sounds like we might be keeping Osobor, Martinez, Falslev, Uduje and Johnson will probably bring a 7'3" Freshman.
