Will pass on this guy, 2 assist per game at a lower level isn't going to cut it as a point guard this team needs.

Cardenas out of SJSU should be our first call. He can score when he wants but is a past first PG that can play defense.

It's too bad though things ended at Creighton on such a high note for Ashworth (though good for him) with him winning their sweet 16 game for them. I had heard at some point this season he maybe wanted to come back. Given the changes we've had and how well it ended for him, I'm guessing that ship has sailed now though.

Calhoun will want more shooters than this team had this year. With Sprinkle as the head coach I agree he’s not a good fit, but Calhoun’s offense is very differentColoraggie wrote: ↑April 1st, 2024, 12:55 pmWill pass on this guy, 2 assist per game at a lower level isn't going to cut it as a point guard this team needs.

Probably no prayer with this kid, but man it would be a great pickup. I wonder if Uduje and him know each other at all through past teamates/friends.

If Osobor was our best player last year, Brown was our most important one. It is hard to know the kind of point guard we need without knowing what the roster will look like, though. Would be really nice to see something either way from our current roster.

Re: Potential Portal Point Guards
Pay no attention to the article I happen to know for certain this kid could still come to USU due to his interest and his decision is not final to go to Vanderbilt. Highest source level possible. Given he is still a freshman and would still need to develop. His family would love to move here if he played here, his sister set the all time 800m SEC record and his father played B-Ball at Rice. https://www.tennessean.com/story/sports ... 134037007/

He was headed to Vanderbilt then his coach got fired. Now he is re-analyzing and will make a decision very soon. Not sure if we could be fast enough at this point. But we are still a possibility regardless of the article.Bullnamed_gus wrote: ↑April 1st, 2024, 4:23 pmWhy isn’t he coming here then?Blue Sage wrote: ↑April 1st, 2024, 2:05 pmPay no attention to the article I happen to know for certain this kid could still come to USU due to his interest and his decision is not final to go to Vanderbilt. Agreed. If a guy really wants to win championships and showcase his talent for the next level after he is done playing College Basketball, l am really not sure where he can go that is a better opportunity than Utah State. Honestly.Bullnamed_gus wrote: ↑April 1st, 2024, 4:23 pmWhy isn’t he coming here then?Blue Sage wrote: ↑April 1st, 2024, 2:05 pmPay no attention to the article I happen to know for certain this kid could still come to USU due to his interest and his decision is not final to go to Vanderbilt. He could go continue his journey as a pine jockey on the bench at any number of BIG 10, Big 12, or SEC schools.
Or he could come to a place like Utah State and blossom like a rose against high-level competition in a very competitive Basketball league in an environment that would adapt around his talents and abilities.

What about Juco? I don’t follow enough teams not named Utah State to really know who is good. But I think I’ve seen juco players blossom
Re: Potential Portal Point Guards
I would start with Cardenas, then call T. Jackson from CSU. He didn’t play a ton this year because he was hurt and was behind Stevens, but he is legit and very athletic.

Cardenas would be great. If not him, am hoping Coach Cal could convince one of the top Horizon league pg’s to be an Aggie, such as Noah Reynolds (Green Bay) or Marques Warrick (NKU). I think Reynolds is already committed to Ole Miss but Warrick is still available. Mark Freeman from Morehead State would be worth a look too. Maybe Duece Turner from San Diego as well. Pac12 has some nice pg’s in the portal from UW, WSU, OSU, and ASU, but we may not have the $$$ for them. I kind of like UTSA’s pg Christian Tucker. Averages double digits and 5.4 assists, though not the best 3pt shooter.

Just for conversation sake. If we keep most of our team and only went after mw transfers my wishlist would be
1. Cardenas
2. Petraitis
3 Dusell
4. Wenzel

Re: Potential Portal Point Guards
I'd swap 3 and 4 but I agree whole heartedly on #1. If we can keep this group together you want to bring in a PG that can lead this group. You need a guard like Darius that can make clutch shots, but isn't hunting his offense so much that it's a detriment to the team dynamic. Cardenas is so good on the pick and roll too, and combining him with Osobor would be a dream come true.slcagg wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 5:00 amWe contacted before sprinkle left. If that is correct, I have to wonder if something funny happened here with him and Sprinkle and now he’s bolting, or maybe Sprinkle isn’t renewing his scholarship.
