I doubt that we get him, but I pointed out in another thread that Arizona has a number of players in the portal.

If I were him, I would definitely want to play at USU.

Re: Potential Portal Point Guards
We almost surely need 2 PGs in the portal right? We were counting on the incoming freshman Hill to pick up a lot of minutes, any idea if Barnes can handle the Javon role from last year right off the bat?

Re: Potential Portal Point Guards
That depends on if Martinez is coming back. You might role with one transfer and Barnes if you know you can put Martinez and Falslev in there in a pinch.MetsJetsAggies wrote: ↑April 10th, 2024, 11:40 pmWe almost surely need 2 PGs in the portal right? Re: Potential Portal Point Guards
Yeah Martinez could handle a few minutes a game but think he needs to improve as a ball handler a bit still. Didn’t look super comfortable running point out there when it happenedLarryTheAggie wrote: ↑April 10th, 2024, 11:57 pmThat depends on if Martinez is coming back. But you’re right, if he is back then it’s possible a transfer PG + Barnes would be enough with Martinez/Falslev back

Re: Potential Portal Point Guards
I would assume that we have a good chance of getting this guy. I mean, our team made a great first impression, right? This dude would be AF to turn down an offer to play for us after playing against us. The way I see it is that this dude is extremely lucky that we're showing interest in him.

Needs work on the TO number (3.3 per game)
Having a scoring threat at PG that passes the pass would help

Splits
He was developing during his D1 season.

Potential Portal Point Guards
He does remind me a bit of Roddy Jr but does average 36.4% from deep, which isn’t bad, but only attempted 1.7 per game. His 17/6/4 stat line was only playing 28 mpg. His shooting percentages are 48/36/75. Biggest concern is the turnovers but might can be coached out.hipsterdoofus21 wrote:Can he shoot from outside? Based on highlights he appears to be Roddy Jr

He only shot 55 threes the whole season and made 20 of them. Didn't rely on the 3 at all. Overall solid shooter.SLB wrote: ↑April 11th, 2024, 10:19 pm48/36/75hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑April 11th, 2024, 10:17 pmCan he shoot from outside? Based on highlights he appears to be Roddy Jr

He was a JC player that was adjusting to D1 ball.

People had concerns with Burns that he did not show well against good competition. This guy scored 23 against Duke and 10 against Clemson.

Re: Potential Portal Point Guards
Our coaches are probably a little in limbo right now too waiting on portal guys. They don't want to take a spot that would go to Ian or Great if they come back. Them making a decision either way would be ideal.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑April 12th, 2024, 10:01 amYeah been quiet on that front. This kid is a hooper and we need to do a full court press to go get him.
Out of everyone in that roster he might be the one I want most at Utah state. He and Robinson are basically it.

I think it was up to 2 days, depending on how fast the school actually files the paperwork. Though I saw that he has been considering entering the portal for a couple of weeks.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑April 12th, 2024, 12:25 pmDidn't someone on the board say it takes 2 days for submitted portal entrees to get announced?Bullnamed_gus wrote: ↑April 12th, 2024, 12:07 pm

Re: Potential Portal Point Guards
I think 22 said it. But the way I read the rule is that once a player tells a compliance officer of the desire to enter the portal, the compliance officer has two days to enter the players name. Meaning if you have a fast acting officer, the entry could be immediate.LarryTheAggie wrote: ↑April 12th, 2024, 12:29 pmI think it was up to 2 days, depending on how fast the school actually files the paperwork.
