Keep checking back…
Waiting for USU portal announcements.. any updates or insider info? So far pleasantly surprised but it’s super early.

Re: Keep checking back…
Expect most of the team to hit the portal after they meet with the coach tomorrow.
EDIT: This is my opinion... Like most people on here discussing their opinion, I have no inside info.

Re: Keep checking back…
I was thinking about other coaches press conferences at other schools that we hear about the whole team entering the transfer portal during the conference. At least that didn’t happen. Hoping to see a bunch of #RunItBack tweets today

Can someone point out what other transfers have done since leaving after a coaching change, besides Ashworth.

Re: Keep checking back…
Word is every player on the roster was present - that's a good thing.
Keep in mind - most guys went portaling last year after Sprinkle announced. The portal is open until May 1.
Even if a guy hasn't entered the portal, doesn't mean he's not talking to other schools. There is no need to enter portal until you have your next landing spot lined up.
The next few days will be very telling, IMO.

He doesn't have a source. He posted something similar in a different thread stating the same thing acknowledging no source but just speculation/what he thinks will happen. That doesn't mean he might be wrong. Anything is possible, but the fact we have only had 1 player enter the portal at this point, and all players attended the press conference can only be seen as positive right now. The next 2-3 days should give us all a much more clearer picture.Usu0505 wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 11:42 amThat sucks. I think the most likely scenario is that they all enter the portal to test the water... maybe we get some back maybe we don't. Calhoun mentioned he is meeting with each player tomorrow. I am guessing by the Friday there will be a more clear picture of who is putting their name in the portal.

Re: Keep checking back…
lol fair enough. The fact that they’ve waited this long means they don’t hate logan completely. If we can put some money together and the opportunity to do major damage next year it could be enough to keep them all here and out of the portal. Crazier things have happened. Not sure FAUs NIL chest but it worked there.ChicagoAggie wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 11:50 amHe doesn't have a source. Re: Keep checking back…
My personal opinion, I think the team knows how good they are and what they have coming back. I'd like to think they understand that their best opportunity to get back to the Dance and make some noise is by sticking together. I certainly think our new coach has major influence on whether they stay or go, but what I can tell so far, Calhoun seems to also recognize how special this group/team is.The Old Bull wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 11:53 amI think the most likely scenario is that they all enter the portal to test the water... maybe we get some back maybe we don't. Re: Keep checking back…
That’s what I think. The open portal isn’t some magical situation that fixes everything. These guys have been through it, some multiple times already. There is stability with our program (even with changing coaches). As long as they can vibe with the new coach and most of the players stay, they can have another great year. There’d be more unknowns by leaving.ChicagoAggie wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 12:00 pmMy personal opinion, I think the team knows how good they are and what they have coming back. He was giving his opinion. He expects the players to enter the portal and test the waters. Hoping if they do they'll come back. We could have another special season if they are willing to remain at USU next year.jackattack wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 12:42 pmWhat “tea leaves”? Re: Keep checking back…
Agreed. I think between some of them being a little older in age and others already transferring several times, they have a different perspective than many young players that might just jump in the portal at first chance. If they leave, they already have to learn a new coach and system (unless it is Sprinkle) which is no different than staying. The big advantage in staying is they don't have to learn new teammates and go through the unknown of how or if they'll be used in a rotation.apo wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 12:15 pmThat’s what I think. Obviously with the caveat that they get enough (doesn’t necessarily mean more) NIL funds to make it worth it.
For some, do they really want to join their 3rd or 4th team for only a single remaining year? Do they want to go through moving to somewhere new again for a single remaining year? Do they want to go through having to get to know new coaches, system and teammates?
It's already been reported that a meeting was held with the Blue A Collective and the players to convey to them that what can be done should they stay. I guess they'll have to decide if the difference in what they might be able to get in the portal outweighs what they might get here minus all trouble and effort of the associated changes.
I personally think they would find more satisfaction on and off the court by choosing to stay together. They are a good PG away from being as good, if not better, than last year. There's got to be a level of comfort that comes from that.

Re: Keep checking back…
My guess is he might mean the NIL tea leaves nothing none of us don't know about but I think he is trying to be realistic. NIL is a big motivator, so I just put some more bags of my own cash in there. If we could all donate the smallest amount possible it could in reality put us on the path to retaining the players. Even if 1500 people jumped in at the lowest amount that's another $500,000. 3000 people's donation makes it about $1 million. This is on top of what the top donors have already created. Those kinds of numbers change the future of Utah State Basketball. We have 27,000 students per year at Utah State. We can do this!jackattack wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 12:42 pmWhat “tea leaves”? I don't expect most of the team to hit. I'm thinking this will be a smaller number than most expect. Here is some of the data driving my opinion.jackattack wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 12:42 pmWhat “tea leaves”? Reportedly the team met with donors and were presented "an offer" to stay.
Since the meeting that occurred a couple of days ago only 1 player has posted he is coming back.
Shortly after "the meeting" Great posts to his Instagram a post that looks like good bye.
Falslev is in the portal. Of all the players I would have listed him the 2nd or 3rd most likely to return. Reportedly Mason has said he wants to be here... but he is looking at his options.
Based on past history I think most of them enter the portal... maybe we get some of them back.

Missed this one. Would have expected at least 5 threads of meltdowns over this. The Old Bull wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 1:12 pmHere is some of the data driving my opinion.jackattack wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 12:42 pmWhat “tea leaves”? And thought this happened before the meeting with the donors...

Re: Keep checking back…
Can you imagine being a BSU fan and getting good news that Cade is leaving one day and then hearing the next day that it was a joke and he is really staying. That's ruthless.ViAggie wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 1:05 pmHe was probably counseled out by his da... er head coach.Aggie in Boise wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 1:02 pmBut why would their worst player that doesn't even belong in D1 joke about something like that.

The meeting with Jim Laub has already happened.GameFAQSAggie wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 1:10 pmUltimately, what will be more of a deal breaker than the meeting with Calhoun is the meeting with Jim Laub.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 11:55 amCalhoun mentioned he is meeting with each player tomorrow. MInd elaborating on what those decisions/pieces need to fall into place? Are we talking NIL, assistant coaches or what.splintorb wrote: ↑April 2nd, 2024, 1:00 pmI don't expect most of the team to hit. I'm thinking this will be a smaller number than most expect. Re: Keep checking back…
For me it would make more sense to enter the portal like Mason did than wait if you just want to see options. Why wait and see who the new coach is if you have already made up your mind that you are entering the portal to see your options.
