For those who attended the press conference today, can you help us out with the Q&A portion? The video stream was too quiet and muffled to make out any of that portion.

Doug is a joke. This is the 3rd time doing this in 6 years and it's almost like he's getting worse at his job.

Once you realize Doug Hoffman doesn’t give a crap about USU and how it is perceived, everything he does (or doesn’t do) makes perfect sense.

This is the first time since 2023 that the Press Conference for the new basketball coach wasn't audible to the streamers.

I think a lot of people even in attendance had a difficult time hearing the questions.

You will never hear anyone speak highly of USU’s media relations department. I’m not sure how/why changes haven’t been made there.

Well, Diana wasn't at the Press Conference last year. Now she has seen it in person she may make some changes in personnel or get the personnel to change how they do their job. I trust this will be fixed.

My impression of Hoffman, there at the beginning, was he seemed agitated and put out by having to wait for the Scotsman to be finished. He seems like a dip$h!t, my impression of him. I’m sure others that actually know or have dealt with him would know better. Sound sucked though if he was in charge of that.

I hear you guys, and I can't speak for how good or bad Doug Hoffman is at his job as I've never interacted much with the guy. But I promise he wasn't responsible for the microphones not working properly or the sound being mixed poorly or any issues that the stream may have had. That's not his job.

But yes, it is frustrating that USU can't seem to figure that kind of thing out.

OK, so I hear you and know what you're saying, but if I were the SID, I would be making sure that anything and everything that projects an image of the program to the outside world was working flawlessly. There'd be a dry run to test all the equipment beforehand and a backup plan in place in case something failed on the fly. The actual working microphone or what not might not be his exact responsibility, but coordinating with the team whose responsibility it is, and ensuring standards are met, IS, or should be within his remit.

But ever since the Mike Strauss days, that SID department has seen their job as beginning and ending at working with the five members of the media who cover USU regularly. They copypaste everything from past media guides, rehash formulaic press releases, and click start on the zoom for press conferences. The role should be modernized and have a focus holistically on the outward image and promotion of the program across traditional and new media channels.

From a technical aspect, I’m not even sure it is Doug’s team executing the stream. If I’m looking at the website, I’d completely assume he’s not involved with it at all. There were a lot of questionable decisions on the stream today. The wide shot looked like it was a 15 yr old camera. No one bothered to move the tight shot during the coach (cut off the top of coach and didn’t change during Q&A). No redundancy for audio. Even after the fact, they haven’t trimmed up the livestream and left it up even after publishing the recording of the main event. But, I’m assuming they’re operating understaffed as most of the department goes outside the video team.

It doesnt matter if the AV folks are in his dept or not. Hoffman is supposed to direct information to the media and public. He's not doing his job if neither can hear the information.

They have a trimmed version up now, along with an untrimmed version.

I hear what you’re saying, I’d just say that there would be plenty of others to blame well before him that have more ownership in the problem.
