Re: Current State of USU Basketball
Agreed. Martinez could carry a larger scoring load. We need him or Great back if we're going to repeat as MWC champions.Aggie37 wrote: ↑April 21st, 2024, 3:00 pmDid Templin make any hints about Martinez? If we get him back, then we will essentially have brought back four starters - Falslev, Johnson, Uduje and Martinez. Albury, Gatereste and Templin are already committed as well.ImportAggie wrote: ↑April 21st, 2024, 1:30 pmOn a positive note - I just ran into Karson Templin at the Dallas airport. We had a short conversation and I got to ask him a few things. He obviously didn’t divulge any crazy info to some guy fan girling in the airport but had some positive things to say to the few questions I asked.
I’m glad I saw him, because I got to tell him I think we’ve just barely scratched the surface on the player he can be and that I think he’s going to be very good for us. I know many have said that here, on X and on Instagram but I wanted to make sure he heard that. There’s always a lot of noise on social media and hopefully he has seen the positive sentiments, but I also hope the words of one fan will stick with him.
Regardless of all the openings that still need to be filled, we should feel good about going into next season with these seven.

When I look at the updated list that 22 has posted there are only 5 guys coming back and it doesn't seem like enough positive news about guys coming in to offset the guys not coming back that we know or were looking forward to. I hope this changes soon. We need to stop with all of the negative waves...
I pointed out earlier that St. Louis can't compete on money in their region. The A10 plays where the Big 12, Big Ten, ACC, SEC, and Big East play.

Re: Current State of USU Basketball
I mentioned Ian and hoping he’d be back, and he did offer something along the lines of we should hear something from Ian soon. The way he said it gave me an impression of whether it would be a good or negative announcement, but that was 100% my interpretation of how he said it and not what he said. I don’t want to put any words in his mouth and give false hope or discouragement on here. I’m very tempted to say what my impression was but it was just that and that only.Aggie37 wrote: ↑April 21st, 2024, 3:00 pmDid Templin make any hints about Martinez? This guy is also from UK and shares an agent with Great. Kentucky Twitter is pretty sure both will commit to UK. Playing on a U.K. to UK theme.so far they were right on this one.

Lighten up, Francis. This directly affects Osobor’s decision. Williams was his high school team mate in England and they are friends. Only reason I posted about it. Other than that couldn’t possiblyf care less about Kentucky.Winning Team wrote: ↑April 21st, 2024, 3:26 pmCURRENT STATE OF USU BASKETBALL

My post wasn’t about Pope or BYU. Solely about how Williams might affect Osobor. Would have posted the same thing if somebody else was coach at Kentucky.Winning Team wrote: ↑April 21st, 2024, 3:40 pmJust tired of seeing Mark Pope and YBU all over the USU threads.bluegrouse wrote: ↑April 21st, 2024, 3:39 pmDirectly affects Osobor.’s decision. I was kinda expecting this dude and Great to announce at the same time. I am probably reading way too much into the fact that that didn’t happen.
I’m just ready for it to be done with either way.

Something to keep in mind is that Great and Amari play the same position, Amari is less of an offensive force but is a great defender and rebounder, exactly what fits well in Popes system.
Great doesn’t fit well in Popes system and I think this commitment is a good thing for our chances of a Great return.

That's a good point, but I don't trust any of these guys to not just go to the highest bidder. Great said he never wanted to do the portal thing again, and yet here he is, chasing the $$$. Not putting him down, or blaming him....just the way it is in the NIL world.BasketballAgg wrote: ↑April 21st, 2024, 4:21 pmSomething to keep in mind is that Great and Amari play the same position, Amari is less of an offensive force but is a great defender and rebounder, exactly what fits well in Popes system.

Like someone said yesterday, someone needs to be the 11-13th guys on the bench. Need practice guys/walk ons that are good teammates and know their role. Which makes some of the guys being asked to leave odd to me.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2024, 10:34 amIs Jaxon Smith staying? No sense in telling a walk-on you don't need him. Plus he's a good enough shooter that he can provide good scout team play.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2024, 10:34 amIs Jaxon Smith staying?
