Re: Current State of USU Basketball
Love it. Great work on this post!! So it looks like we can reasonably expect about 4-5 spots available for Coach Calhoun to fill. It appears we got the 'tall white guy in the post' position filled, but need help basically everywhere else.

If those predictions hold, I'll consider us to have survived the annual portal carnage well.

Kind of shocked Sakho is not coming back. Seems like he fit well here. Is that his choice or the staff’s?aggies22 wrote: ↑April 4th, 2024, 1:13 pmAfter assessing how things have transpired this week and trying to do as much research as I can, this is my PREDICTION as to who stays, who is going, and who is on the fence. Obviously Osobor is a MUST have back and if there’s an NIL number we can do to match I hope we do it.

Re: Current State of USU Basketball
Thanks @aggies22!
Appreciate the time checking in with sources and supplying information to us
New coach not interested in Wynott or is he more interested in going another direction?
How is Garrison Phelps developing?
Any idea what coaching staff may look like?
Should we start to see some additions fairly soon?
Thanks!

The staff HAS made contact with the Wynott's BUT it's early. It's like starting the recruiting process all over again.SpectrumMagic wrote: ↑April 4th, 2024, 1:24 pmThanks @aggies22!

Garrison needs to improve his shot from the outside. He's CRAZY athletic but that is the weakest part of his game.
NO CLUE what the coaching staff is going to look like BUT they will get paid more.
With the Final Four this weekend, I would be surprised if anyone is added before Saturday.

Re: Current State of USU Basketball
@aggies22 what are you hearing on Osobor? I have just assumed he was gone given 1) his high NIL value; 2) the fact that he can really ball and is surely covetted by some big programs; and 3) comments from DS that he "can't image anyone else coaching Great". What factors lead to your prediction that we have a "medium" chance? Really curious what you are hearing?

Danny hasn't finalized his WA staff yet. Any idea if Haslem/Brown are still options for him in WA (thus they may be hesitant to commit to USU, assuming Calhoun is even interested), or has Danny told them both no?aggies22 wrote: ↑April 4th, 2024, 1:28 pmThe staff HAS made contact with the Wynott's BUT it's early. Re: Current State of USU Basketball
I’m in team play Phelps even if his Jumper isn’t there yet. Let the kid play. We just need guys that can bend defenses off the dribble. He can do that.

Count me as one maybe the one and only that still has hope for Jackson Grant. I've seen this kid play before and he has all the talent. He just needs to regain his confidence and he could be a real solid piece.

Re: Current State of USU Basketball
This is also something that I think some are missing here. When a coaching staff would change previously, they had a lot of work to do to keep players. This is DRASTICALLY down now that NIL is at play. NIL collectives are bargaining with players now plays as big if not a bigger role than the new coaching staff on keeping players.ragnarh77 wrote: ↑April 4th, 2024, 1:51 pmThis is the type of content I am here for. I've heard the Agbonkpolo camp believes the chances of him getting a 7th year are HIGH. I just don't think he's going to stay in Logan for that 7th year.Aggieforlife wrote: ↑April 4th, 2024, 1:36 pmIs Agbonkpolo done? I thought he got a medica redshirt, if so im a little surprised he's leaving.

Re: Current State of USU Basketball
Would love to see Josh stay. Assuming Mason and Josh stay that is 3 solid starters to build around. I am perplexed with Nigel. At Idaho he was the Freshman of the year and shot like 40% from 3. He obviously did not play but only a few times here and did not look great doing so. I would not be hurt if he left but be interesting to see him get a fresh start with a new coaching staff if he could develop into a solid rotational player.

Re: Current State of USU Basketball
I didn't spend NEARLY as much time at practice during the season as I was able to during the summer and early fall. That being said, Jackson spent the entire year on the scout team battling Great. It has to be solid practice going against the Mountain West Player of the Year everyday.Aggie in Boise wrote: ↑April 4th, 2024, 1:54 pmThank you @aggies22! Great info!

Nigel COMPLETELY lost his confidence this season. Could Coach Calhoun be the guy to coax his potential out of him?Aggie84025 wrote: ↑April 4th, 2024, 1:57 pmWould love to see Josh stay. A lot of that came from his confidence being down. He was out there thinking instead of playing ball like he can.

Burris and Grant have the pedigree at lower levels. It'll be interesting if a new coach can get it out of them. Like others have said, I think we ended up being better than expected and all development went out the window.

Re: Current State of USU Basketball
In MY OPINION Great enjoys it here. I think he likes his teammates. I often saw him around town with Karson and I think they are pretty tight. I think the question will be what price will it cost in order for him to leave his comfortable surroundings behind? Is it worth sacrificing your final season of college ball for the unknown?Heathen wrote: ↑April 4th, 2024, 1:29 pm@aggies22 what are you hearing on Osobor? Re: Current State of USU Basketball
In MY OPINION if Haslem and Brown were following to Seattle they would have already made the jump. There was no benefit to leaving either of them behind as neither were in contention to be the head coach. If I had to bet on either one being retained, I would put my money on Eric Brown.Aggie702 wrote: ↑April 4th, 2024, 1:31 pmDanny hasn't finalized his WA staff yet. Re: Current State of USU Basketball
He certainly had confidence in the game against Purdue!aggies22 wrote: ↑April 4th, 2024, 1:59 pmNigel COMPLETELY lost his confidence this season. Could Coach Calhoun be the guy to coax his potential out of him?Aggie84025 wrote: ↑April 4th, 2024, 1:57 pmWould love to see Josh stay.
