Re: UCONN has contacted Great
One could say, our chances of having Osobor coming back has greatly decreased.
Great disappointment
Great sadness
Great player
Great times
Greatness awaits him

Re: UCONN has contacted Great
Outside of UConn, there's not a guaranteed tournament team among them.

Re: UCONN has contacted Great
Seton Hall, UConn seem like they will be serious contenders again next year.
But I agree, USU, with Great, would be similar tournament shot next year as the rest of the teams.
Unfortunately we don't quite have the atmosphere as USC or ASU....

Re: UCONN has contacted Great
Oh no doubt, if money is what he wants - he can find more of it any many of those places. I'm just saying it may be the price to pay to find himself sitting home come tourney time or to have a reduced role on a team like UConn.Bullnamed_gus wrote: ↑April 10th, 2024, 12:55 pmThey all got more money to throw at him, in power conferences.
Re: UCONN has contacted Great
Honestly, outside UCONN, I like our chances against that list.
UCONN is going to be looking to replace Clingan's production primarily, and Great plays in a similar bracket to Samson Johnson. I'd think going there is more of a gamble to start. Playing for a blue blood could be the dream, but even the best are going to have to earn their minutes.
I'm not saying Great couldn't earn starting minutes for UCONN, but it isn't as sure as most of the rest of that list.
Given we are seeing some news on the transfer side, I bet he has determined he needs to return to college and develop an outside shot for the NBA.

Re: UCONN has contacted Great
We discussed this already, but what was the conclusion for foreign players here on an education visa and earning money? I guess it ultimately wouldn't matter; write your own ticket if you are a starter for UCONN. At least we beat them in Football!Bullnamed_gus wrote: ↑April 10th, 2024, 12:55 pmThey all got more money to throw at him, in power conferences.

UCONN can pay him more to be on their practice squad than we can for him to be Conference POY.

Re: UCONN has contacted Great
If it is purely about the money, I dont think there is any chance he stays - and never was a chance. If wants a good payday and a known situation with a guarantee of minutes, we should have a shot.
Re: UCONN has contacted Great
If you remember Hurley’s comments after the game Monday, he thanked UCONN for providing enough money to make the championship happen. My mind immediately went to NIL.
Re: UCONN has contacted Great
Not my intention at all, I think Great has shown he's good enough to be a starter at any level.GeoAg wrote: ↑April 10th, 2024, 1:45 pmI think you are underselling Great's abilitiesUSU2025 wrote: ↑April 10th, 2024, 1:06 pmHonestly, outside UCONN, I like our chances against that list.

I just don't think he's the head and shoulders best PF in the portal, and UCONN needing to replace top-10 draft pick type production in the low post, and having the NIL to do it, will surely be bringing in at least a couple guys at Great's level to ensure they replace that production... and that's not considering one or more of their 5-star big men on the bench might also be developing towards that level.
I'm not saying Great couldn't go there and start, but its one of only a few teams in the nation where it isn't a sure thing.

I would say outside of UCONN the list of schools that has contacted him is less impressive than I was expecting.

Re: UCONN has contacted Great
Great would be a national player of the year candidate at Uconn given the exposure. BUT like I discussed on the other stream, that scholarship is going to someone else the longer he takes his time during the draft process.USU2025 wrote: ↑April 10th, 2024, 2:27 pmNot my intention at all, I think Great has shown he's good enough to be a starter at any level.GeoAg wrote: ↑April 10th, 2024, 1:45 pmI think you are underselling Great's abilitiesUSU2025 wrote: ↑April 10th, 2024, 1:06 pmHonestly, outside UCONN, I like our chances against that list.

I wish him the best if he goes to UCONN. He’s a hell of a player. That would be an incredible opportunity for him.

I don’t want to see him pull a Byron Vaughns, who is far less comparatively talented.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑April 10th, 2024, 2:53 pmGreat would be a national player of the year candidate at Uconn given the exposure. When Vaughns had every offer under the sun and didn’t commit while everyone else was committing I knew something was up. Sure enough everyone moved forward with the team they could get.

Re: UCONN has contacted Great
He has HEARD from those schools. That might not mean he has an offer from each of those schools. Though maybe with the transfer portal and how fast teams have to move with portal guys, maybe he does have an offer from all those schools.

It's possible (or even likely) he has heard from way more schools, and he's selectively leaking the list of schools he's considering.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑April 10th, 2024, 2:53 pmGreat would be a national player of the year candidate at Uconn given the exposure. I don't know anything about his decision making process, but if he wants to play in the NBA, I can't imagine he wants to transfer somewhere where he won't get any minutes. Sitting on the bench at UConn is not going to impress any NBA scouts. Of course, if he could be a starter or even a regular contributor off the bench for UConn, that would be another story. But I think it is doubtful that he is going to want to spend his senior year on the bench just to chase NIL money. Even from a purely financial perspective, losing a shot at an NBA paycheck to get one season of extra NIL money doesn't seem like a good tradeoff. (And remember, Osobor isn't a U.S. citizen, so getting NIL money into his pocket is trickier than it is for most players. It's unclear that a school like UConn would go to that kind of trouble if he is going to be a bench warmer anyway.)

Great did very well this year but National Player of the year at the best program in the country come on. Zags? UCLA? not gonna be a star there if even a starter.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑April 10th, 2024, 2:53 pmGreat would be a national player of the year candidate at Uconn given the exposure. Re: UCONN has contacted Great
Isn’t UConn losing a couple post guys to the NBA? I could see them rolling out the red carpet for Great but the question will be who else will they bring in at the 4/5, and will Great be more of a 20 minute per game guy there which could hurt his NBA stock a little.
There are a lot of good reasons for Great to stay though. Familiarity with the team, knowing he has a massive role here in front of an awesome home atmosphere, great chance to go back to the tourney and make a run, plus with the unknowns surrounding NIL money he won’t have to risk forgoing all of that for a paycheck that might not even come, and if it does he will still get a nice one from us here in any legal form possible.
