Is Ashworth done? 2 players from Utah may be overkill for Creighton?

Asuming Great returns, Robinson is the only guy that would start on our team. We already have bench depth so no thanks.

So this is a money grab? I'd think that Creighton will probably throw money at him, same as they did Ashworth.EngineeringAggie wrote: ↑April 15th, 2024, 9:13 amHall is not going to Utah State. NIL has turned college basketball and football into a bit of joke.

Re: Do we want any BYU Players?
If Ian comes back, we have basically our entire guard rotation minutes accounted for next year except for the "last in the rotation" guy to play the Javon Jackson minutes. If Ian doesn't come back, there's maybe one key rotation guard spot available. I don't see any BYU players wanting to be the last guard in the rotation here.
What we need is a playable 3 man in the 6'7 to 6'9 range that's basically a "three and D" guy (or just a D guy like Agbonkpolo) and a center. Even if great comes back, I'd like another 5 that can provide some rim protection, but that would probably require Jackson Grant to move on.

I don’t follow them so I don’t know who- but they beat Kansas and a few other great teams. I also read none of the thread.

They have some very good players that would help USU.Imakeitrain wrote: ↑April 15th, 2024, 4:04 pmI don’t follow them so I don’t know who- but they beat Kansas and a few other great teams. I also read none of the thread.

But don't get your hopes up. This is their players looking for a pay day, like Ashworth. They aren't coming to USU.
My guess is they are trying to extract a deal out of NIL to stay at BYU, or will look at a big pay day out of state.

For the sake of his playing time, Jackson Grant should move on.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 15th, 2024, 2:02 pmIf Ian comes back, we have basically our entire guard rotation minutes accounted for next year except for the "last in the rotation" guy to play the Javon Jackson minutes. Agreed. Some of them are probably dreaming of going to Kentucky and playing alongside one and done talent. I don’t know why people are saying they wouldn’t want a byu player. Booger board would have a full melt down because “why would somebody want to play in the MW instead of the Big12?” Any player that causes that meltdown would be respected by me.

When I looked up BYU recruits after Pope leaving, Chandler was a top 35 recruit in the nation. Even though he went to Kentucky instead here, it is a big win for us since BYU does not have him. Utah and BYU are set up to fail miserably in the Big 12 which will turn the tables in our favor in recruiting Salt Lake and Utah County players.

Re: Do we want any BYU Players?
We’ve been a better program for basically a decade, since 2016, and we still haven’t turned the tables. AAU coaches force their best kids to Provo and SLC or to bigger schools outside the state, and only send their scraps to Utah State. Then they get butt hurt when we don’t take all of them.SLB wrote: ↑April 16th, 2024, 8:07 amWhen I looked up BYU recruits after Pope leaving, Chandler was a top 35 recruit in the nation. Only kids coming here are if they grew up Aggies like Sam Merrill or they don’t have any comparable D1 offers.

Re: Do we want any BYU Players?
BYU will always get theirs. It is what it is. Utah will largely depend on the coaching staff. Right now, they are going to get Utah kids with Burgess on staff. I feel like we have declined a bit with getting good Utah High School players. I actually feel that has more to do with AAU coaches getting the very best of Utah into the big schools in the country. We continue to get what we need to be good year after year. I don't see any of that changing any time soon. Ultimately, both of those programs can offer a lot more money to players than USU.

BYU had been in the NCAA tournament and had Mark Pope. BYU has their top players in the portal or committed to Kentucky.Bullnamed_gus wrote: ↑April 16th, 2024, 8:29 amWe’ve been a better program for basically a decade, since 2016, and we still haven’t turned the tables. Utah has Craig Smith, and Smith has the claim of 3 NCAA tournament with us. Smith's claim to fame has become dated.
Losing drives recruits away.
Winning wins over recruits.
When I speak of Salt Lake and Utah Couty players, I do not strictly speak of HS players.

Johnson: started at Oregon.
Grant: now transferring.
Ashworth: had basically big sky offers and us. What do you expect?
Go look at where their teammates went.
With the results we get as a program you’d think a competent AAU coach would be more willing send his kids here.
We do a good job at turning some of them into stars.

I predict no byu players end up at USU and Dallin Hall ends up back at byu. Everything about that kid just screams byu to me.

Dallin Hall is the Jon Scheyer of BYU basketball. He embodies the hate-able character.

I’m hoping byu is dumb enough to pay Hall cause with Kevin Young at the helm the competition for recruits just got tougher. Let Hall’s presence discourage better players from going there.aggies22 wrote: ↑April 16th, 2024, 1:49 pmI agree my Aggie brother. Re: Do we want any BYU Players?
Sure, but at the same time the result at the end of the season speaks for itself. We've had many talented players in Aggie uniforms over the last 20+ years and haven't cracked the post-season ceiling until this year. BYU arguably has talented players, but I don't think any of them will propel USU in the direction we want to go. With open transfers, the possibilities are much bigger than they used to be, and a coach should be able to find the right pieces to get results, not just sign talented kids because they're convenient.QuackAttackAggie wrote: ↑April 15th, 2024, 8:13 amWe can't sign a PG from Queens and then say we are too good for any players on a team that was top 20 most of the year and a higher seed than we have ever been.thrashsoundly wrote:We don't.
