Javon Jackson
I'm surprised that Javon Jackson entered the portal and hasn't indicated that he'll be back yet. Is there any prevailing thought on if he's gone gone or just in the portal for now? Perhaps I'm getting greedy...
I - for one - love Javon Jackson and thought that he was really turning into a solid backup PG. Lest we forget, the MW tourney would have been a one-and-done... if not for the heroics of our favorite H-Town Aggie.

I would love to have Javon back. He is worth a scholarship. His last 10 games he proved he could be a solid backup guard.

Javon will not be returning to Utah State. He does have an offer from South Dakota.918AGG wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2024, 8:49 pmI'm surprised that Javon Jackson entered the portal and hasn't indicated that he'll be back yet. Re: Javon Jackson
I disagree, when given good playing time the last 8-10 games he was solid. Not starter level in the MWC but can give you 10-12 solid minutes as a backup.JFWAggie wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2024, 10:12 pmIMO he's not a MWC level rotation playerjprism wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2024, 10:01 pmAny insight into the specifics as to why he won’t return to Utah State that you can share?aggies22 wrote:Javon will not be returning to Utah State. Re: Javon Jackson
I swear that we have been the best at getting walk-ons that are D1 scholly level players.
Quinn Taylor, Justin Bean, Abel Porter, Trevin Dorius, Carson Bischoff, Javon Jackson (wherever he goes is a D1 scholly), and etc.
If you put our best walk-ons from the last 10 years, you would get a potential NCAA tournament team.

Am I the only one who has no memory of Bischoff? I have absolutely no idea who that is. Porter was good for a walk-on but he was definitely the weak link on those teams.SLB wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2024, 10:24 pmI swear that we have been the best at getting walk-ons that are D1 scholly level players.

Bischoff never played, but he transferred to UTA. In his last year there, he averaged close to 20 minutes, scored 5.5 points per game, and just under 40% from 3.Hoot wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2024, 10:37 pmAm I the only one who has no memory of Bischoff? Re: Javon Jackson
Your mom was a walk-on. Seriously though, the only player on that list who really fits the Cinderella story you are telling is Justin Bean. Most of our walk-ons are borderline, at best. Unless I am forgetting a few players, the combined walk-on players from the last 10-years likely couldn't finish above 0.500, let alone be a tourney team.SLB wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2024, 10:24 pmI swear that we have been the best at getting walk-ons that are D1 scholly level players.

Re: Javon Jackson
Javon Jackson is definitely a MWC level backup. Surprised we didn't bring him back given the lack of PG's on the roster. Maybe it was his choice to move on though...

Re: Javon Jackson
No disrespect to Quinn Taylor. He was a great Aggie. I'll concede I was hasty to dismiss him from SLB's original premise. I was working out of the country his senior year and thought of him more in terms of his earlier years on TD coached teams (which I remember with frustration). I apologize to Quinn, his family, and Hoot's mom.aggiesdotcom wrote: ↑April 23rd, 2024, 7:37 amYeah, Quinn Taylor didn't do sh*t for us:Heathen wrote: ↑April 23rd, 2024, 6:55 amYour mom was a walk-on. As far as Javon goes, it seems like Danny only trusted him when he had no other choice - otherwise Brown doesn't have to play almost the entire game every night. Javon came up big when we needed him against Fresno, but I didn't see that version of him very often. Seemed like ball pressure would bother him more than you would want for your PG. I wonder if he wanted a bigger role and was told his role would stay about the same (5-10 min).

Re: Javon Jackson
Last 7-8 games of the season Javon was a totally different Javon. Hitting clutch shots, feeling confident, rotating into small ball lineups when bigs were injured, etc. He became a solid MWC level rotation player, and I'd love to have him back.JFWAggie wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2024, 10:12 pmIMO he's not a MWC level rotation playerjprism wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2024, 10:01 pmAny insight into the specifics as to why he won’t return to Utah State that you can share?aggies22 wrote:Javon will not be returning to Utah State. Not to mention that we no longer have Brown, who was playing like 38 minutes per game. He was always available and reliable. IMHO, we need High quality depth to share minutes with the new PG.gomretat wrote: ↑April 23rd, 2024, 7:42 amAgreed. Re: Javon Jackson
I can't blame him. His development through the year was great. By the end of the season (and especially considering the off-season jump), he made a strong case for himself. I absolutely think he should be a starter at a mid-major school.
He would have been a great addition to our team, though I wouldn't have wanted him to be our starter—not right after we'd just had Darius Brown. Whoever Coach brings in has a tall task trying to fill Brown's shoes.
