Average WAC level player. Good for 10 backup point guard minutes at best.

Re: Drake allen
Most teams don't have 6 full-time starters, returning their 6th man who started 10 games, and their 2 highest scoring freshmen from last year's team coming in with 5 roster spots to go.
The minutes between Brown and Jackson are basically going to be replaced up by Albury and Allen.

Re: Drake allen
Which is what we need. Albury should get 30ish and Drake about 10. I feel it is a solid pickup.

Always trust 22! Can you say if the two you know of are HS kids? Or are they portaling in?

Re: Drake allen
With a current guard rotation of Martinez, Falslev, Uduje, and Albury, what kind of player did people think we would get for this spot? This is a fantastic addition for the role that it is.

Re: Drake allen
Seems like a pretty huge upgrade at the backup PG spot compared to what we had last year, allows Albury to play a bit off the ball if necessary too.

Re: Drake allen
Looks like he was above average in the WAC, and a pretty big upgrade over Javon to have as a 2nd option at PG

Re: Drake allen
Is the role to sit at the end of the bench during games and wave a towel, simulate shooting a bow and arrow when someone makes a three-point basket, and make the finger goggles gesture when someone makes a good play? Every college team needs a couple of those guys.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 25th, 2024, 6:40 pmWith a current guard rotation of Martinez, Falslev, Uduje, and Albury, what kind of player did people think we would get for this spot? I was hoping for more of a 3 and D guard, but I like the addition.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 25th, 2024, 6:40 pmWith a current guard rotation of Martinez, Falslev, Uduje, and Albury, what kind of player did people think we would get for this spot? Re: Drake allen
Exactly. There’s not a long line of guys wanting to be a back up their senior with his level of talent. And to be honest, I could see him potentially starting.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 25th, 2024, 6:40 pmWith a current guard rotation of Martinez, Falslev, Uduje, and Albury, what kind of player did people think we would get for this spot? Re: Drake allen
Ill put myself out on the skeptical of this guy. Calhoun wants three point shooting and the guy shot 23% in the WAC. He's also jumped around to every school, sure he's a senior so we don't care if he jumps but has he ever been part of a winning team? A point guard that isn't part of a winning team isn't the guy I'd be shooting for. Seems like if he is it we've had some big misses. Now, I will cheer for Allen and hope that I am completely wrong.

I believe he lead Snow to the national NJCAA tournament for the first time in 50 years, or something like that.Coloraggie wrote:Ill put myself out on the skeptical of this guy. Re: Drake allen
One year I led my church ball team to the Regional finals. The same year I led my city ball team to whatever regional playoff there was and I shot better than 23.5% from 3. Can you give me Calhoun's number, I think I'd be a good fit.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑April 26th, 2024, 6:12 amI believe he lead Snow to the national NJCAA tournament for the first time in 50 years, or something like that.Coloraggie wrote:Ill put myself out on the skeptical of this guy. Re: Drake allen
He’s much better than Javon.
Javon really wasn’t a starting point guard at our level. Maybe he didn’t have the size or athleticism. His shooting was awesome, and brought a new dynamic but when he was out there without Darius, he was forced into being the primary Val
Handler, he struggled.
Drake is better

I concur that he is a definite upgrade over Jackson. However, other than being very excited about hanging on to our core from last year, I am underwhelmed by almost every other move.

Re: Drake allen
If it makes us feel better, someone close to the UVU program said Drake has a good 3pt shot in his arsenal but due to an ankle injury and poor offensive scheme, he struggled from distance last year. He did shoot 36% from 3 the prior year at SUU, which is in the Isaac Johnson and Javon Jackson range. He should get a little better looks in our offense than he did at UVU. I also hear Calhoun is a 3pt shooter whisperer. ;-)

Re: Drake allen
I think the biggest thing is probably that their is no obvious difference maker in the group.
We will see, there are still several spots to fill.
Imo we still need a good shooter wing type, unless everyone starts shooting much better.

I mean, I think Albury and Gateretse look like significant difference makers. Look at how well Albury played against Duke last year. But the reality is, the star power of the team was already on the roster with Ian, Mason, and Isaac, IMO. Especially, Ian.

Agreed. We may take a step back with Osobor’s and Brown’s replacements in the starting lineup, but I expect Martinez, Mason, and Fish to take sizable step improvements forward over last year. Our bench should also be deeperineptimusprime wrote:I mean, I think Albury and Gateretse look like significant difference makers. Look at how well Albury played against Duke last year.
