“Way too early” Starting Five:
PG: Deyton Albury (6’2” , 190lbs)
SG: Mason Falslev (6’3” , 203lbs)
SF: Ian Martinez (6’3” , 185lbs)
PF: Tucker Anderson (6’9” , 190lbs)
C: Aubin Gateretse (6’11” , 215lbs)
I’m inclined to see Tucker Anderson at the small forward position, though I’m hesitant about moving Mason or Ian to the bench since neither seems like a traditional point guard. Deyton appears to have stronger ball-handling skills based on highlights.
My main worry with this lineup is its lack of size, especially in terms of weight, and whether it can effectively rebound. If Osobor returns, these concerns would likely diminish.
Some members of this group are expressing concerns about outside shooting, but there’s optimism that Coach Calhoun can help improve Ian, Mason, and Fish’s 3-point shooting abilities for the upcoming season.

I would plug in Isaac at the 4 spot and Tucker coming off the bench. I don't see Tucker having the strength to guard the 4 spot.

I would like to see Tucker at the SF position, but I’m not sure if Ian or Mason will come off the bench? We can’t forget Drake Allen will be fighting for that PG/SG starting spot. Summer is going to be a battle for these guards!Aggie84025 wrote: ↑April 29th, 2024, 12:20 pmI would plug in Isaac at the 4 spot and Tucker coming off the bench. Re: “Way too early” Starting Five:
I would think (pending practices of course) that Isaac is our starting 4 as he's proven what he can do against better competition at this point. However, it sounds like we'll have quite a bit of rotation so Tucker should get plenty of run as well.

If we land does Carter Welling, does he start? He seems more athletic and explosive than Aubin.

Re: “Way too early” Starting Five:
I think Mason will start over Anderson for the same reason Isaac will start over him. Both of them have more experience at this level than Anderson does and have proven they can play. Granted, practice can prove that he is good enough to hold his own, but until he proves it I just don't see him taking a starting spot based off of what he's done so far.BasketballAgg wrote: ↑April 29th, 2024, 12:27 pmIt’s gonna be

I wouldn't expect Templin to redshirt. From what I have heard, he has no desire to redshirt and is expecting to take a big jump this next year. If Welling is announced and he is concerned about time on the court, we could see Templin in the portal in the next few days before it closes.

Here’s our lineup rotation assuming no great:
Albury/Allen/Martinez
Martinez/Uduje/Falslev
Falslev/Anderson/Uduje
Anderson/Johnson/Templin
Johnson/Gatersen/Templin
9 man rotation. Maybe one more 7 footer ast the 10th guy. (welling?)
WITH great:
Albury/Allen
Martinez/Falslev
Anderson/Uduje
Great/Johnson/Templin
Johnson/Gatersen/Templin
That’s a Sweet 16 team, maybe higher.

Re: “Way too early” Starting Five:
Looks exactly right to me too. Could definitely use Welling to beef up the 5 spot, without Great we need someone who can guard bigger post players. Gateretse is more of a long/lanky shot blocker like Sahko, but neither him nor Fish will likely be able to guard beefier guys like Great did. Templin might be needed for that role too, otherwise he might be better off redshirting since there won’t be a ton of minutes to go around.Bullnamed_gus wrote: ↑April 29th, 2024, 1:04 pmHere’s our lineup rotation assuming no great:

Re: “Way too early” Starting Five:
No question that the team is lean on big players that were like Great Osobor, Queta, Dan Akin, Quinn Taylor, and Trevin Dorius, but we do have length with Johnson (7'), Gateretse (6' 11"), Anderson (6'9"), and Templin (6'8"). We are trying to add a big to that group, but the length will give the other teams bigs to trying to shoot over them.MetsJetsAggies wrote: ↑April 29th, 2024, 1:49 pmLooks exactly right to me too. Also got say, it looks like we’re gonna have a lot more depth than I’ve seen my 3 years going to games at the spectrum. If there’s a year we do a 10 man rotation, this is probably it

Re: “Way too early” Starting Five:
Falslev was starting as a freshman on the first USU team to win an NCAA tournament game since 2001 and the only team to win an outright MW regular season championship, but he won't be good enough to start on the new team?AggieIceCream05 wrote: ↑April 29th, 2024, 11:59 amPG: Deyton Albury (6’2” , 190lbs)

I wouldn't expect Templin to redshirt. From what I have heard, he has no desire to redshirt and is expecting to take a big jump this next year. If Welling is announced and he is concerned about time on the court, we could see Templin in the portal in the next few days before it closes.
No, we'll end up having a rotation of 7 guys. Another guy or two will be common but won't get big minutes.
Also got say, it looks like we’re gonna have a lot more depth than I’ve seen my 3 years going to games at the spectrum. If there’s a year we do a 10 man rotation, this is probably it

Re: “Way too early” Starting Five:
Not really the same scenario. And we would have had a 9 man rotation last year with a healthy Max. Burris ended up being left out but there was some reason to believe he’d get minutes, and every player we have brought in has put up better numbers than he did as a Freshman at IdahoReal Life Aggie wrote: ↑April 29th, 2024, 2:25 pmWhy do we repeat this same garbage every year?Aggie37 wrote: ↑April 29th, 2024, 1:02 pmFirst, we need to accept that Great is not coming back. There are clearly 8 players on the roster right now who will get run. Welling will also get time, Templin likely in the same role as last year Id guess and would be better suited to redshirt.

Re: “Way too early” Starting Five:
We are bringing in 4 players that combine in 23-24 stats 55 points per game and roughly 120 games started while returning 5 players (4 of them started 10 or games). We are still looking to add to the roster (probably Carter Welling who started in games at UCI and got 7 points per game)ImportAggie wrote: ↑April 29th, 2024, 3:08 pmIf you have it every year, one year it’ll be right.Yossarian wrote: ↑April 29th, 2024, 2:44 pmThe annual "we are deeper than ever" discussion is starting early this year.ImportAggie wrote: ↑April 29th, 2024, 2:34 pmSomeone mentioned earlier Calhoun did a 10 man at Youngstown.Real Life Aggie wrote: ↑April 29th, 2024, 2:25 pmWhy do we repeat this same garbage every year?Aggie37 wrote: ↑April 29th, 2024, 1:02 pmFirst, we need to accept that Great is not coming back.
