ALL the Point Guards?

Post by 3rdGenAggie » April 30th, 2024, 11:22 am

Seems like a position we really don't need, except that he's a RS freshman and could be a bench guy now while he develops for the future.

Again, unsure about this guy's legitimacy. (For one thing, Housley was NOT an elite 3 point shooter at SUU last year.)

It looks like I'm going to have to start tweeting about guys the second I am told about them. I used to wait until the kid announced but "Heard it here first" doesn't care about that stuff. I was told about Braden yesterday and yes he is going to sign here.

With this guy and assuming the Welling kid signs, do we have a full roster?

Several of us were all over that unsupported assertion.

His percentage would have been the lowest on USU’s team last year among the other six that had at least one attempt per game (Johnson, Brown, Jackson, Uduje, Falslev, Martinez), and he would have been second on the team in attempts.

Gotta be a redshirt for us no? Don’t see him getting the floor with current guards but maybe I’m missing something

Averaging 11 points per game as a freshman on a D1 team is nothing to scoff at. NOt sure he will fit into the rotation next year but not all 13 scholarship players will. He can still be valuable to the team with practicing etc.

Probably want hold those open for a bit and see what happens over the next 36 hours (and keep one of them for Osobor just in case)

Anybody still want to complain that Calhoun isn't going to recruit the state of Utah? Funny what happens when we let the entire process play out.

Is that with Carson Welling signing or if/when Carson signs we are down to 1 available scholarship available?

I'm pretty sure we still have room for one more if both Housely and Welling sign.

Portal Additions when playing in Logan
Housley 22 minutes 11 points 4/8 FGs 2/6 3s 1/2 FTs 3 rebounds 1 assist 1 steal 0 TOs 3 PFs
(Probably) Welling 15 minutes 8 points 2/4 FGs 4/5 FTs 2 rebounds 1 TO 1 PF
Both were freshmen.

I bet that having Eric Daniels has made a huge difference in recruiting Utah.
Since having Daniels, we have pursued:
Drake Allen
Braden Housley
Carter Welling

Getting Braden Housley is about the fact that Albury and Allen have only 1 year left while Braden Housley has 3 years left.

Honestly years left don't matter anymore. With unlimited transfers getting someone with 1,2 3 or 4 years left of eligiblity does not mean that much in the current landscape. Its unfortunate but reality.

That's exactly what they have sold him on. He basically has a year to prove he belongs in the Mountain West.

Honestly, this is a smart all the way around.
per game stats from his RS Freshman stats
3.6 assists to 2.3 TOs
1.5 steals
50% from 2
27.2% from 3
62.9% on FTs
There is potential.

Does the coaching staff have anything in the works to bring on one or two strong bigs that can defend and rebound?

In this case it looks like a good idea though. Get him in the program, he’s an Utah kid, showed potential as a freshman, solid ball handler and distributer who is a break glass in case of emergency option at PG, can work on his shooting. Almost like a 2nd redshirt with the chance to walk into a starting PG job his Junior year for a good MW program.

Unless he gets recruited over next year I can’t see him leaving since he knows what he’s walking into right now.
