Looks like Boise State is suing the Mountain West.
Could get ugly, and we could be down a member.

Re: Looks like Boise State is suing the Mountain West.
Anyone with a legal background able to opine on whether their complaint is likely to win?
When our new contract came out, I was wondering how the MWC had finagled out of the piss-poor and disproportionate money deal they made with Boise to come back.

Their blue turf draws crowds for even away games. I'm glad they paid someone to write this. The Boise State football team's success and its widely known and highly popular blue turf have consistently made it a team that draws high television viewership numbers, both for its away and home games.

I'm too lazy to read the actual document and wouldn't understand most of it anyway. The Boise board sure thinks it is a slam dunk and probably the end of Thompson.
This post is likely straight up poor sarcasm and cannot be taken seriously.

It looks like Boise wanted to increase the tribute other schools pay to them. The presidents said no and then gave notice that in six year they would terminate the tribute entirely. I don’t know where the law will ultimately side, but Boise pressed the right buttons when it asked all the other members for a raise to their share before splitting the remaining amount.

Millions for defense; not one cent for tribute.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Is this how they are normally written? Doesn’t seem... professional? I felt like I was reading a joke but I imagine they have a case.
Not sure how the MWC would have a case. Cool that two presidents voted against paying them any extra starting next year. Maybe SDSU and Fresno or UNLV?

I think this will get settled, imho the MWC doesn’t have a leg to stand on.

Re: Looks like Boise State is suing the Mountain West.
What is the settlement? From what I can tell Boise is getting their $1.8 for six more years. I don’t know what there is to settle. Do they want to rip up the recently completed TV deal? Do they want more than the $1.8 extra they get? They seem most upset the conference just said six years from now Boise’s special deal will most likely be over and they maybe will not be getting $1.8 million more than other teams. By filing suite 6 years before anything changes Boise knows their deal was ending with an appropriate amount of notice. From what I’ve read courts don’t like deals that never end, so Boise’s complaint actually strengthens the case if the Mountain West decides to make all teams revenue even for a future TV deal.
