Just Thinkin
Just Thinkin
As I listened to the game on KJAZZ I was generally pleased but I could tell they knew almost nothing about USU.
I was just hoping someone with insider information could let me know what Press information we give these guys so when they are chitchatting about a snowy football game he had in 1980ish that was about all he knew. They were good about telling kids to come on up to school, beautiful stadium etc. and that was cool to hear.
Just was hopping someone could inform me on what we give to our Press/announcers.
Thanks

Re: Just Thinkin
Good question.
But...
They are local sports media people. We really shouldn't HAVE to provide them with that much information.

Was at the game so I can’t comment on how bad it was, but just makes me wonder why they didn’t just simulcast with Scotty G. Do they really need a “booth presence?”

Re: Just Thinkin
They weren't well prepared to talk USU football so Alema Harrington filled time with BYU stories - pretty annoying IMO
Re: Just Thinkin
They are provided with so much information it's almost ridiculous. This 50-page packet is updated for every single game, sent to broadcasters well ahead of time (usually 5 or 6 days), and is printed and distributed in the press box. USU's media relations team literally holds their hand and guides them to the well of storylines and information, but can't force them to drink. Not to mention that something called the internet exists.hvaggie wrote: ↑September 10th, 2023, 2:21 pmhttps://utahstateaggies.com/documents/2 ... _State.pdf
If you're calling a D1 football game in 2023 and you're unprepared, it's very simply because you're lazy and bad at your job. There are ZERO excuses.

I think this describes a lot of the Utah media people.shoresy wrote: ↑September 10th, 2023, 3:45 pmThey are provided with so much information it's almost ridiculous. Re: Just Thinkin
Well Utah State is an after thought to most SL media members, 4th or even 5th thing to them after the JAZZ, the U, the Y and even RSL. But I agree if you are going to do the game then be more prepared and talk about USU not the other teams.

Re: Just Thinkin
are these the same guys who spent a quarter talking about how great USU is, that kids watching should really consider USU, it's the best college experience but still close enough to go home on weekends, talked about the leaves changing, etc.?

Yes. There's a difference between being complimentary of a place and doing some actual research for the thing you're being paid to do.QuackAttackAggie wrote: ↑September 11th, 2023, 8:59 amare these the same guys who spent a quarter talking about how great USU is, that kids watching should really consider USU, it's the best college experience but still close enough to go home on weekends, talked about the leaves changing, etc.?
I appreciate them saying kind things about Utah State. But it's a D1 football broadcast, they should do at least a shred of research ahead of time and be prepared to talk about what's happening on the field.

Re: Just Thinkin
Two things can be true at the same time.
They can be complimentary of Logan, the school, the atmosphere, etc
AND ALSO
Be clueless about our team and players and talk too much about byu.

Re: Just Thinkin
My point exactly.
They're doing three more Aggie games this year, so hopefully they find a few minutes in the coming weeks to do a little bit of research. Or even just to read a couple of the bullet points from the plethora of information so kindly provided to them.

Re: Just Thinkin
It was incredibly annoying- and I'm not being nitpicky. They discussed BYU and UTAH ad nauseam. They didn't seem to discuss Wyoming or AF or any of our conference mates much at all. I can also understand that it was a blow out so it's tough to fill the commentary, but there is plenty of other topics outside of BYU and U of U.

Re: Just Thinkin
I watched the game last night again. I will agree that they were very complimentary of Logan and USU. It honestly didn't annoy me as much this time around when they droned on about Alema's days at BYU. Apparently, he had a daughter attend USU.

Re: Just Thinkin
Maybe they should stop literally holding their hands -- that has to be very distracting.shoresy wrote: ↑September 10th, 2023, 3:45 pmThey are provided with so much information it's almost ridiculous. Nobody here knows anything.
Re: Just Thinkin
Thank you Aggie friends
It looks like if they want, they had the information they needed to do a better job and give more information. I did think they did a good job of saying many nice things and I appreciated that for sure.

Re: Just Thinkin
I heard a lot of good stuff about USU when I watched the broadcast on Monday. I thought they were very pro-USU. Alena will always talk about his time at BYU but he did it to emphasize compliments of the student section, etc.QuackAttackAggie wrote:are these the same guys who spent a quarter talking about how great USU is, that kids watching should really consider USU, it's the best college experience but still close enough to go home on weekends, talked about the leaves changing, etc.?

Re: Just Thinkin
byu won't win another game so there won't be that to talk about. I guess there's always 1984 for alema.shoresy wrote: ↑September 11th, 2023, 10:28 amMy point exactly.
