Gymnastics Locker room
Didn't see it posted here but the gymnastics team opened up a new locker room on Friday. My wife and I went up and were part of the festivities as we donated a locker. We were the youngest people there that were not a parent of a gymnast.
Good to see some advances with facilities. I had asked the coaches who came to the Brigham City tour last summer what they needed to get their program caught up. Coach Smith said they desperately needed the lounge/locker area upgraded. So I was glad to see it happen.
Unrelated, but I would love to see some lights at the Bell to improve that facility.

Re: Gymnastics Locker room
I agree about the lights at Bell Field. I also think Softball could use them as well.
Back to Gymnastics I’ve noticed we haven’t had as many great scores under Smith. When I worked with the program we rarely lost to SUU and BYU. Is it recruiting or facilities our problem. I know Smith is a young coach and I’ve been detached from the program lately so I’m just curious what has changed. I always try to donate what I can to them as Gymnastics is fun.

Our current coach is Kristin White; Amy Smith was our last coach from 2017-22.Aggie1990 wrote: ↑February 26th, 2024, 10:06 amI agree about the lights at Bell Field. I also think Softball could use them as well.

Utah State is 52-90-1 all time against BYU in meets that include both teams. We had a good run from 2015-17, where we went 9-3, but outside of that, more wins than not is not the norm until you go back to 1989.
We are 56-58 all time against SUU, but they've had the better of us since 2000. Our best recent run against them was from 2018-22, with a head-to-head record of 10-8.

Re: Gymnastics Locker room
White has also had the unenviable task of having to rebuild the program when Smith gutted it by taking over half the team with her to Clemson in 2022. Last season was tough, and it may be Aggie blue goggles here, but it appears to me they’ve had a lot of improvement this season.AggieInTucson wrote: ↑February 26th, 2024, 10:16 amOur current coach is Kristin White; Amy Smith was our last coach from 2017-22.Aggie1990 wrote: ↑February 26th, 2024, 10:06 amI agree about the lights at Bell Field. Re: Gymnastics Locker room
You are absolutely right. They had really bad back-to-back 193's to start the season, but they are averaging a 196.100 over the last two meets which is a lot better. We are still just third out of four in the Mountain West, but it's always good to be trending up near the end of the season.greggers1868 wrote: ↑February 27th, 2024, 11:12 amWhite has also had the unenviable task of having to rebuild the program when Smith gutted it by taking over half the team with her to Clemson in 2022. I'm glad they have that, but it did not meet my expectations of what it would look likegallopinagg wrote: ↑February 26th, 2024, 8:47 pmThey put out a short video below, pretty cool stuff.

Re: Gymnastics Locker room
No, it was an entirely new locker room. The team had no such space before this.

Re: Gymnastics Locker room
That’s right Smith did leave, I meant White. I have noticed us posting much higher scores the last couple meets. Understanding that our coach left the program in shambles, I can see we’re rebuilding. I can’t remember if we had this much drop off after Nadalie left, but if Smith took the team with her then that makes sense.AggieInTucson wrote: ↑February 27th, 2024, 11:18 amYou are absolutely right. I wish we had an indoor field that could double as a practice facility for football.

Has the Mountain West added women's gymnastics? My understanding was that we are in the Mountain States gymnastics conference with BYU, SUU, and Boise St?AggieInTucson wrote: ↑March 1st, 2024, 10:35 pmTaking third in a meet with SJSU and AF is a big yikes from me.

Re: Gymnastics Locker room
Air Force performed way over their season average. In facet going into the meet we were ranked at least ten spots higher than them and two above sjsu if I remember correctly. Definitely a yikes performance. Air Force typically is behind d2 programs.AggieInTucson wrote: ↑March 1st, 2024, 10:35 pmTaking third in a meet with SJSU and AF is a big yikes from me.

Re: Gymnastics Locker room
Seems like most of the contributors this year are graduating. Some of the freshman are being worked in. I know nothing about incoming class or gymnastics recruiting in general but not sure what to expect next yearAggie1990 wrote: ↑March 3rd, 2024, 1:52 pmAir Force performed way over their season average.
