New rivalry name for USU-Wyo
From previous thread on MW rivalries.
I love “the Rodeo” as the name of the USU-Wyoming series. It’s better than Bridger’s Battle. Makes sense. And we can still keep the rivalry trophy the same.
I started a poll on Twitter. Tell all your friends and round up Wyo fans if you know them. I want a clear picture of fan interest across the board. Perhaps we can convince the conference to change the name!
Poll here:
And be sure to send me suggestions about writing Aggie content. I’m a MW Wire contributor. Peace!

Love the name change, but keep the rifle as the trophy.

Why is it called Bridgers Battle? I’ve always disliked the name... but there is probably s reason for it.
But on the plus side, i can root for the bull just like I do in actual bull riding without giving people more or a reason to think I’m an a$$

Because during the Lake Bonneville era there was a bring that started near Logan peak and ended about 8 miles outside Laramie that indigenous tribes and animals would you to cross the waterway. Think Arctic Land Bridge in Beringia from my old neck of the woods.Imakeitrain wrote:Why is it called Bridgers Battle? I’ve always disliked the name... but there is probably s reason for it.

Jim Bridger. Is there a general lack of knowledge of this in the public?Imakeitrain wrote: ↑July 12th, 2019, 3:53 amWhy is it called Bridgers Battle? I’ve always disliked the name... but there is probably s reason for it.

The lack of knowledge on the subject is indeed sad. Bridger told Brigham young about the Intermountain west. There is a place in Wyoming called fort Bridger.
This game has the perfect name

Re: New rivalry name for USU-Wyo
Yeah, not seeing a need to change a perfectly fitting rivalry name. Fits the the trophy to a mountain man rifle, not sure what a rifle would have to do with a "Rodeo." Also "Rodeo" implies the Cowboys are riding us......

I haven't hated a post this much since the Tim Duryea days.
Okay to be fair, the rodeo would be a pretty fitting name but Bridgers Battle is great name too. If it aint broke dont fix it. But I guess everyone know that the best way to establish traditions is by constantly changing them.

Keep Bridgers Battle!
It’s. Mountain Man, Historical, Regional thing.
Jim Bridger has shared history with both Wyoming and Utah and besides he was a total bad A$$.
No offense but The Rodeo is to cliche.
Besides the Hawkins rifle trophy is Jim Bridgers weapon of choice he used as he explored and trapped in these territories.
I thinks it’s Awesome and unique and one of the best traveling trophies in football.
Just needs lots more hype to get this thing going.

Also,
Large tracts of Utah and Wyoming are called and referred to by locals as “Bridgerland” it is a territorial battle.

I don’t know, doesn’t really imply conflict, sounds more like an annual meet and greet, or linger longer.
What about “Range War”?

Re: New rivalry name for USU-Wyo
I mean the Bridger thing is cool, but I don’t think people who grew up outside of Utah or Wyoming would know who that is.
Davey Crockett, Daniel Boone, and Lewis & Clark...
I’m not saying that people shouldn’t know more- but I’m saying people don’t.
But it is cool I guess that there is some history involved.
That being said, if it were “The Rodeo” and if we weren’t cheap schools it’d be cool to have Garth Brooks play halftime. If we were in any other state, we could make shirts that have joked about how cowboys and 8 seconds.

The game has no meaning to anyone outside of Utah or Wyoming so who cares if they get it. The Apple Cup, Iron Bowl????

Re: New rivalry name for USU-Wyo
Bridger’s Battle is the right name for this rivalry. “The Rodeo” is so pathetic that it is embarrassing. You people who want The Rodeo for our rivalry with Wyoming remind me of the people who made a strong movement back in 1970 to change our name from Aggies to Highlanders’. It almost worked, and we would be the USU Highlanders. Turns my stomach as does The Rodeo, for a rivalry name. Let’s just leave we’ll enough alone, and instead of changing something that doesn’t make sense to you......do a little research and find out WHY things like this are thr way they are.

If you change the name to rodeo you couldn't keep the trophy... If we changed the name to Rodeo wouldn't we have to change the trophy to a belt buckle?
