Re: AF-FST
I still have no idea if we’ll be able to beat either of these teams. They should be fun games, though

Re: AF-FST
11+ minute drive to end the game. Something like 25 minutes to 5 minutes TOP 2nd half. Crazy.

That sounds about right YoungBlood. I like our chances at Fresno much more than at the Academy. Interesting how the league is playing out this season. Wyoming mostly played quite well against the Aztecs.YoungBloodAggie wrote: ↑October 13th, 2019, 2:28 pmOne road game looks a little easier, one looks a little tougher.

After the game, Calhoun said he doesn't think air Force is a good fit in the Mountain West conference.

I’m actually shocked he feels like that. Maybe he can go independent like army and navy. It actually works for their model.

Of all the coaches in the MWC he's the one that has consistently been an A$$ every time I hear him open his mouth.treesap32 wrote: ↑October 13th, 2019, 5:37 pmAfter the game, Calhoun said he doesn't think air Force is a good fit in the Mountain West conference.

Calhoun is an outright prick. He is the coach that I despise most in the conference. I hope the Aggies go and lay the wood on those guys but it will be a tough game cuz they do have a good team this year.

Re: AF-FST
Air Force is a name institution and a decent draw where ever they travel. The reality is that schools in the west are not just down the highway an hour or so. Flying to the next contest is a given for them unless CSU and and an OOC game with Colorado are involved.
Taking the emotion and knee jerk reaction away from his comments, I just can't see where the AFA would ever plant their flag.

11 of the 12 MWC schools are state sponsored.
AFA: Federal
5 of the 12 MWC schools are land grant universities.
AFA: Nope
10 of the 12 MWC schools are over 100 years old. Six are over 120 years old.
AFA: 65 years old, barely qualifies for Social Security.
11 of the 12 MWC schools draw the vast majority of their students from the western US, if not from their own state.
AFA: Nope.
Having said that, I think the Academy is a great institution, and a huge asset to the conference. Because of the inherent limitations, they will almost never compete for a conference championship in the revenue sports, but they are always competitive in EVERY sport.
Calhoun is a massive jerk. Dirtiest, whiniest coach in the conference.

We always talk about Hawaii or SJSU leaving the conference, but maybe AFA would be the one to walk away.

Re: AF-FST
I'm fine with Calhoun finding a better gig somewhere else. He isn't a good fit in the conference. He is the whiniest coach of them all (he even beat out Caragher before he was fired). He is always pulling lame crap too. I remember last year when his players would walk off the field to slow down our offense.

Re: AF-FST
i have no remorse for team when it comes to scheduling and travel. In 2014 the aggies played at Hawaii on a Saturday and then followed that up by playing at WYO the following Friday. They basically gave us 4 days in between. Tell that is not taking the shaft in terms of scheduling. The team went out and won both of those games. AF's travel is not back to back so he can't stop his dam whining.

I agree it's a bad fit. Pull AirForce and move the Mountain West headquarters from Colorado Springs to Logan.

Re: AF-FST
Now that we've all piled on this coach we should ask....WHERE DOES AFA REALLY GO FROM HERE? Coaches don't speak for institutions although they can be mouthpieces for that school. He may be insufferable, yet he has fielded some competitive football teams. His comments weren't made in a vacuum, and there must be some rumblings inside that school about staying in the MWC. AFA is a name brand asset to the MWC, but as the Y has discovered, being independent in our current intercollegiate environment is no casual undertaking as games are tougher to schedule in late October and through November as league races are the primary focus.
Re: AF-FST
I’ll don’t think it makes sense (unless they are moving the academy... ) but wasn’t there talk of them trying to get into the Missouri Valley Conference? Football in the MWC makes sense to me but I can see them wanting to change for basketball and maybe some other sports.
