Much needed win!
Great job by Smith and the boys tonight! Got the most out of our star players Queta and Sam and had some good contribution from other guys. Although we continue to struggle a bit with shooting, we played with a lot of heart and effort tonight. Hopefully we can get everybody rested this week and get a big win at Boise on Saturday!

Yep, good win. Our intensity on defense set the tone. Lindsey looked like we stole his lunch money and then kissed his girl. He was one dejected dude.

Re: Much needed win!
I didn't get to see much of the game as I was at a party but congrats on the win. I figured your lads would win pretty easily. The good news is Nevada will not have to play in Logan for 2 years. Our skinny freshmen bigs will be Juniors by then.
Of course we may see you for a game in the tourney and the Pack might give you a better game on a neutral court.
Anyhoo, good luck on the rest of your season.

Glad to win. Still 14-5 on the year with a good chance for success the rest of the way. All is not lost. Glad musselman is gone from nevada.

Harris played great. Lone bright spot. Jazz did come alive at the end but too little too late.

Harris looked really good. Definitely a good scorer and defender. He’ll be a great player for the program.nvspuds wrote:What did you guys think of Harris?

Re: Much needed win!
Coach said Bean didn’t do anything wrong. He got sat because of his 3 fouls and the team was clicking in the second half and it became harder to put him in.
Oh and Harris carried Nevada.

Re: Much needed win!
Much needed indeed. Great to see the effort and energy back but 29% from 3 still signals we have major issues on offense. I liked what Bairstow brought and think we might need to see him start over Miller at some point.

Re: Much needed win!
They alternate every year..I don't think the 20 game schedule will happen until year after next. NV will get USU at home.
Re: Much needed win!
That’s not how things work. Not in basketball, at least. In fact, the fact that they only played once this year all but guarantees it will be home and home next year.nvspuds wrote:They alternate every year..I don't think the 20 game schedule will happen until year after next. The weird MW format sucks..
I really have lost interest in this conference but there just aren't any other options..

Re: Much needed win!
Brito and Miller really brought that % down tonight. I dont know exactly what miller was but he was probaly 1-7 from i would guess. We had several pick and rolls that were awesome tonight.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑January 11th, 2020, 9:18 pmMuch needed indeed. Re: Much needed win!
Harris is very good and made Miller look like he was on ice skates all night. I went to the game waiting to hate Nevada, but I couldn’t. I don’t like Jazz at all, he’s all about Jazz. The rest of Nevada and Alford are hard to hate. I was impressed with #11 in the limited time got.

Re: Much needed win!
I have never quite understood the desire to hate players on another team. They are just youngsters trying to win games. I could see not liking an opposing coach. They are the guys getting paid and sucking in the endorsement cash.
Anyhoo..I think they are grooming #11, Kane Milling to be the starting PG next season. There may be as many as 8 new guys coming in next year so this will look like a completely different bunch..

It was. He worked with Alford at UNM before Alford got the UCLA job.GordoAggie wrote: ↑January 12th, 2020, 9:25 amWas that "Noodles" Neal on Nevada's bench??

Re: Much needed win!
I am not sure if you are messing with me but....
That is Jazz Johnson..The guy the other poster said he didn't like. At any rate he is a senior and was on last year's team. He was named the 6th man of the year.
When Alford got hired, every guy on the roster went into the transfer portal. Jazz was the first one to recommit to the Pack. He is probably the number one fan favorite in Reno.

Jazz is a player and I'm sure if he was an Aggie we would love him. He didn't come alive until late but he's definitely talented.

I could see why the other poster thought he was all about himself. I thought he was playing with the belief that we may be losing and likely won't come back but we can sure try. I thought he was fun to watch. i can see why he's a fan favorite of yours.

Re: Much needed win!
Jazz is very talented, I just don’t think he makes your team better. Just like Carmelo, Marburg, MacGrady, etc. all very good and talented players, their teams just weren’t better because of them.

Re: Much needed win!
Jazz is statistically the best defender on the team . The plus/minus numbers are excellent.. Alford wants him to take 10 or more 3's a game because he hits 45 percent. Alford has also instructed the Pack to drive more to get more foul shots. The Pack lost a game in a tough place to get wins against a better team. That tends to make players seem less than they are. Jazz does make the Pack better and will be close to impossible to replace.
This is a transition year for Nevada but they are in the early stages of a long term rebuild. They have some tough and experienced guards but they only have 9 guys and 4 of them are in their first year of playing D-1 ball. There will be 5 and possibly 6 freshmen coming in next year. This will take awhile.

Re: Much needed win!
I think you mean Zane Meeks who wears 15. He is a true freshman who has been progressing nicely. He plays about 18 minutes a night averaging 7.1 pts and just under 4 boards. He is a 40 percent 3 point shooter.dyedblue wrote: ↑January 12th, 2020, 10:59 amJazz is very talented, I just don’t think he makes your team better. Re: Much needed win!
Yeah, that’s the guy. Has a really nice looking spot for a guy that tall. Too lazy to look it up but if guess he’s 6’9-6’10. With Alford at the helm I’m afraid you guys are going to get scary good and built for sustained success rather than the flash in the pain of the regime before.
The one thing I didn’t get with Sanford is the way he played guys with foul trouble. He just played guys how he wanted regardless of fouls. Maybe that’s a better approach than resting a guy with four fouls for a few minutes.

Re: Much needed win!
I am sure he would rather not do that but he doesn't have a lot of guys to work with..I do think he will have fuller rosters going forward..
He was supposed to have 6'7 Eric Parrish but he left a couple of days before the season started. I think it was academics but he was a big loss.
