Re: USU still @55 after SDSU loss
I think this is largely because UNLV jumped up 8 spots so now our UNLV loss is a Q2

Re: USU still @55 after SDSU loss
Fresno dropped 12 spots which took our game in Logan from Q3 to Q4.

The loss at BSU really stings. That’s a Q2 game and we had no business losing that game

Re: USU still @55 after SDSU loss
Also with UNLV beating New Mexico, our last road game dropped from a possible Q2 to Q3 which was probably inevitable with their trajectory.

Re: USU still @55 after SDSU loss
Yes it does. We win that game and we would be in really good shape. Net ranking would be in the mid-30's and we would be squarely in the tournament. Still not in bad shape, but little margin for error at this point.SpectrumMagic wrote: ↑February 16th, 2020, 10:00 amThe loss at BSU really stings. Yes, but it also resulted in our loss at UNLV being a Q2 loss instead of Q3.

Re: USU still @55 after SDSU loss
One question, would it benefit us to Boise to upset San Diego today? I know that would give them control of 2nd place, but would our drop the 3rd place outweigh the loss to Boise looking less bad along with making the home win and hopefully semi-final win over them look better, and still not change the fact that we likely can only lose to San Diego in the championship(and maybe can't even do that). Or would that be countered by dropping San Diego to where losing at least the home game is worse, and to where even losing to them in the championship would be unforgivable?

I think the loss that hurts us the most is Air Force, or course, the BSU game was in the bag.

I think we would prefer CSU to win at SDSU. That would put the game at CSU as a quad 1 win. By the way Ken Pom basically has that as a great win.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑February 16th, 2020, 1:46 pmWe want SDSU to win out.GameFAQSAggie wrote: ↑February 16th, 2020, 1:38 pmOne question, would it benefit us to Boise to upset San Diego today? Florida gets 2 shots at Kentucky before the SEC tourney.
On a side note, I know that the NET rating is the main tool, but I remember that the committee does still look at the other ratings. USU is 41 in Net today, but does a little better in the others.

Re: USU still @55 after SDSU loss
There will also be some consideration given to prominent injuries on the team, i.e. Queta. I do understand Queta played at Air Force but given the fact that we have won 7 of the last 8 and could be 10 of the last 11 heading into the conference tournament shows the effect of the team at full strength. If we lose before then or maybe even before the final, that consideration may go away. But given how critical Queta is to our team and how dynamic a player he is, should at least give us the edge in a close comparison.Bank Shot wrote:Florida gets 2 shots at Kentucky before the SEC tourney.

Re: USU still @55 after SDSU loss
The metrics that the committee uses are NET, KenPom, BPI, Sagarin and KPI. KPI likes us the least of those with a ranking of 58. We have all of those metrics on Bracketologists. RPI isn't really used at all anymore.

Re: USU still @55 after SDSU loss
Here’s the Bracketmatrix projection for the NCAA tournament. It is a compilation of pretty much every meaningful bracketology. It has USU as the last team in with a #12 seed — meaning there would be a play-in game against Indiana.

Re: USU still @55 after SDSU loss
Northern Iowa losing last night was a big deal for us imo. They probably wouldn’t get in ahead of us unless they win their conference tournament.
Re: USU still @55 after SDSU loss
I like that the Aggies have moved ahead of Cincinnati, Memphis and Wichita State of the American Conference in the past week or so. Only Houston from that conference is ranked better.
They have also recently moved ahead of Xavier and Georgetown of the Big East. The Aggies would be in the middle of the pack in the Big East, a conference in which every conference game for all teams, home or away, is Quad 1 or Quad 2.

Re: USU still @55 after SDSU loss
Two important numbers are 36 and 32:
36 = at large bids
32 = automatic conference bids
If the Bracketmatrix is any indicator, here are the at-large teams directly ahead of us (seeds #8 through #11 plus #12 seed Indiana) that we are competing with (as of Feb. 19):
Wisconsin
Texas Tech
Illinois
Rutgers - lost to Michigan
St. Mary’s - beat Loyola MM
Rhode Island
Xavier
Oklahoma
Florida
USC - lost to Colorado
Wichita St. - beat South Florida
Arizona St. - beat #14 Oregon
Virginia - beat Boston College
Purdue
Cincinnati - lost to UCF
Georgetown - lost to Providence
Indiana - beat Minnesota
First Four Out:
Richmond - beat George Mason
Arkansas
Mississippi St. - beat So. Carolina
Stanford - beat Washington
Next Four Out:
Alabama - lost to Texas A&M
North Carolina St.
Minnesota - lost to Indiana
VCU
No. Iowa is in a one bid conference but them losing is good in any at-large bid competition.

I was just messing.
Nice write up though. We need as many bubble teams to lose. Usually I cheer for the underdogs but for our sake I want all of the top teams to continue winning and win their conference tourneys!
