While true, a bucket and a mop could've recruited Sam to Utah State.

Yeah obviously he brought in a ton of great players over the years. He was a great coach who also knew when to retire after he saw that things weren't up to usu standards.

Rock, T. Brown, Wesley, Nelson, Carroll, Green, Pooh, M. Brown, Harris, Butler, Peniger, Harris, Wilkinson, Bobb, Quayle, Huber, Pak, Mateus, Jorssen, S. Williams, Spicer, Ross, Daniels, Newbold, Jardine, Carroll, Merrill, Merlin...that’s just off the top of my head. Are recruited very, very well.

This doesn’t diminish your point, but Tony Brown, Dmitri Jorssen, and Spencer Nelson were Eustachy recruits and first played in Morrill’s first season, 1998-1999.

He was great. You don't have 12 straight 23 win seasons that included 12 NIT/NCAA spots if you don't have great talent.

Stew won over Merrill by having winning teams when Merrill was young.

True. Even with usu in his veins Merrill might have looked elsewhere if usu was not a consistent winner for much of his life. In the end he was part of turning around usu and making us a winner again.

After Rahe and Verlin left, what does Stew's recruiting look like that can't be attributed to either of those two?

I don’t think I Rock was a Morrill recruit either. I’d be surprised if he was.

Not to get too off topic but fun fact is I know first hand two of those players liked Stew way more than Larry.

When a guy coaches 20+ years he should have a long list of great/good players. Otherwise, he doesn't last 20+ years.

I believe it was Geno Auriemma who said, "there are two types of coaches; coaches that have great players and ex coaches."
