Playing them gave us a chance to beat Kansas State by proxy since we can't beat them directly. Just as playing football at BYU gives us the chance to beat Texas and Wisconsin by proxy!Aggie84025 wrote: ↑May 5th, 2020, 6:28 pmThis is a great home game. Irvine is a solid program. I personally think all of the handwringing over college scheduling is going to prove unnecessary. I believe we'll have both seasons in 2020-21, as normal (nearly for football and totally for basketball)..

Interesting article in the Athletic about mid-major scheduling:

It has this mention of Craig Smith and how our struggles in scheduling have gotten worse due to Covid-19:

The Athletic wrote:It can work in reverse as well. Utah State always has difficulty finding teams willing to make the trek to Logan. The Aggies recently had a contract drawn up with another mid-major they were going to pay to host next season. At the last minute, the opponent decided not to sign the deal. The excuse, according to Utah State coach Craig Smith, was that the school’s administration ordered the team not to travel that far.

Which of these opponents should we play SUU, Utah Valley, Utah, Idaho State, Montana, and Montana State?

Re: 2020-2021 schedule
For any of you who are interested..this is Nevada's ooc schedule so far..
Nov. 23-25: at Cayman Islands Classic (three games, potential opponents include Miami, Oregon State, Kansas State, Northern Iowa, Ole Miss, LaSalle, Western Kentucky)
Dec. 2: vs. San Francisco
Dec. 6: vs. Dayton
Dec. 18: at Santa Clara
Dec. 21: at San Diego
at Texas Arlington (TBD date)
vs. Pacific (TBD date)
That makes 9, so if the MW votes in the 20 game conference schedule they need 2 more.

Dayton won’t be near as good next year but that is a great home game. Maybe you’ll be able to schedule a p5 neutral game?nvspuds wrote: ↑May 13th, 2020, 2:39 pmFor any of you who are interested..this is Nevada's ooc schedule so far..

I like your wcc games but would love to see you get one of the top 3 teams in the conference to play.

Re: 2020-2021 schedule
Gonzaga won't play us, St Mary's is off the docket until they agree to a game in Reno. So maybe never. We just finished a home and home against BYU.
Dayton won't be as good but that game was arranged by the A10 and the MW.
UT Arlington is a return game as they played in Reno this past season. Same thing with Santa Clara

Re: 2020-2021 schedule
Unlv can get solid series as teams want to come to Vegas including p5 schools. That is one reason unlv being solid is important as they can schedule games that are at home and boost the conference overall.VegasBornAggie wrote: ↑May 13th, 2020, 3:57 pmUNLV just announced their non-conference schedule today for those who are interested. Re: 2020-2021 schedule
That means BYU on December 5th and St. Mary’s a week later. Assuming there’s a game in between those two that makes for a very very fun week of basketball with two massive home games.

I think there is at least a 50% chance this game is either played with no fans, limited fans, not played or played in the 2nd semester.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑May 23rd, 2020, 7:35 amBoth of them are Saturday games whichh makes them better for attendance and environment.VegasBornAggie wrote: ↑May 23rd, 2020, 12:30 amThat means BYU on December 5th and St. Mary’s a week later. It is in Logan, but the only news is the date being announced. This was a home and home arrangement made last year, and we played the first game of the series in California last season.

Re: 2020-2021 schedule
That's pretty hard to predict. I think by December, things should be better. USU is still looking at students on campus in the fall. It sure seems like the consensus in the country is to open things up. I think there will be a general revolution if things don't return to normal fairly soon.bpd wrote: ↑May 23rd, 2020, 12:59 pmI think there is at least a 50% chance this game is either played with no fans, limited fans, not played or played in the 2nd semester.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑May 23rd, 2020, 7:35 amBoth of them are Saturday games whichh makes them better for attendance and environment.VegasBornAggie wrote: ↑May 23rd, 2020, 12:30 amThat means BYU on December 5th and St. Mary’s a week later. Re: 2020-2021 schedule
Really? I thought St Mary’s was in a similar situation to USU where they want home and homes, but have a hard time getting them. What’s their deal? Kansas and Duke fighting over who gets to do the one and done in their little basketball room?

I don't think St Mary's has too much trouble getting games but Nevada has offered home and away for years and Bennet always says no. He will happily play the Pack in Moraga though. We had a neutral site game last year.

If students are on campus and paying student fees for athletics and don’t get to go because there can’t be any fans in attendance. A lot of students are going to be very very angry.GUS wrote: ↑May 23rd, 2020, 5:35 pmThat's pretty hard to predict. I think by December, things should be better. If it were to come down to a decision needing to be made. I’d imagine that worst case scenario there is limited fans in attendance for basketball games this year. Football on the other hand is a different story.

As it is, there are students that complain about student fees BEING ABLE to go to the games. Arguing that they shouldn't have to pay cause they don't go.VegasBornAggie wrote: ↑May 23rd, 2020, 7:44 pmIf students are on campus and paying student fees for athletics and don’t get to go because there can’t be any fans in attendance. That said, one thing that I think could be done that would be fair is allow students who pay the fees one year of getting into the games for free after they graduate or otherwise do not attend USU anymore.

Bennet has been stubborn with USU in the past as well. We were matched up with them twice in Bracketbusters and he complained about it.
