He had a lot of hype coming into the season, what happened? We have only seen him a few times.

I am hoping a good comp for Liam would be Derek Alston. Look at his first two years. Be patient. Liam has size and athleticism, be patient let him develop.

Yeah, he just needs more time and nourishment. I saw enough tonight to be excited about him. The kid is very quick and moves well for his length. He showed some touch and skill with the ball in the limited time he had. It'll be hard for him to crack the 8-9 deep this season but in another year or two he should be a big contributor.

I agree, he moves really for his size. I hope he can continue to get some playing time. Hopefully he can stay engaged and not lose confidence. I think he can be really good in time.

He needs to eat at Culver’s for the next year.

Sure but will he remain patent if the coaching staff never plays him? Recruits that talented ALWAYS have people talking into their ear about other options! This is looking like a throw-away year anyway, LET HIM PLAY #freeMcChesney!

I'm not real worried about his muscle. Strength isn't as critical with the modern don't-touch-me rules in basketball.

I was talking with a guy once who played college ball. He got offered to be a walk on at USU and some other schools in Utah. They told him they would sit him for the first two years and let him build muscle and develop a bit more before they played him. He was a center and decided that he wanted to play now and went and played for a Jr. College team. Second game in he got injured and his career in basketball was over like that. Long story short I wonder if that's what they are doing with Liam. He had the set back of the Hernia and needs to put on some more muscle now and develop a little more before he sees real playing time.

He showed flashes tonight. The crossover, and that one rebound were impressive, at least as I watched on my MacBook.

Liam is only a Freshman and we could have him for four more years after this season due to Covid 19.

Imagine how good he could be when he is a Sophomore in two years.

He'd be playing now if he were a better shooter. I'm guessing you are probably correct in that his build is limiting his stamina.

I can't imagine that he's a worse shooter than his teammates. Anyone on this team throws a handful of wheat at their own (I can't express myself without swearing), not one grain will hit home.

he can't be that much worse than Miller or Bairstow at 3's.

I predict that Liam will be one of our favorite players before the season is over. Within 10 games Brock will be Liams backup.

You may be right. But we have 2 years of Brock starting. I’ll believe it when I see it.

I will say it is important that we start receiving more from that position.

As I said in another thread, with the loss of both spring and summer workouts/conditioning, Liam had his physical development set back a year. When he returned to Canada his options there were limited as well. Liam will be a good player here and the coaches know it. Be patient.

Liam comes from a pretty pathetic place in Canada, I've been there and played sports against them. There is no way his competition was even 2A level for Utah.

This statement speaks truth!! Brock's stock is on a slow decline. I can see Liam getting more minutes against Weber on Saturday. I feel much better with him out there.

Isn't this the case for all D1? I keep hearing this and can't help but think every program is having the same issues. I also believe that he may have a build like Jalen Moore, who took till his senior year to fill out. Yet Jalen still got plenty of minutes and was a contributor.

This. Kevin Durant couldn’t bench press 185lbs once coming out of college.

I think he’s either not shooting well in practice or he’s subject to egregious defensive miscues or both.

Hopefully he gains the trust of the coaching staff going forward and we see more of him.

When the coaching staff first noticed Liam he was playing in an AAU tournament in Las Vegas against much better competition. Liam was NOT recruited based on how he performed against 2A level schools.

While true, because Liam chose to go home to Canada his options to workout were limited, as opposed to say Neemias who stayed here all year long.

Apples to apples: Neemie went home to Portugal after his true freshman season, too. Remember how that went?

Isn't he just now recovered from surgery? Even if the surgery was after the start of the season, he would have still been dealing with the hernia beforehand. Might be a good reason why we haven't seen more of him.

Thanks again for the insight. Again, I hope Liam is patient. Typically, players from this generation are not. Hope he trusts in the coaching staff's development timetable and doesn't decide to bounce if not given a lot of PT.

I've wondered the same, and when he got in the game the other night, I thought he looked great. Moved great, looked athletic, had a very natural rhythm to the game. I expect we will see more and more of him.
