Re: So Miss accepts Sunbelt invite
CUSA is toast, the MWC is head and shoulders above the rest of the G4, adding no one makes zero sense financially, SMU or anyone from the AAC would cost us $20 million per team. How would it have helped us by adding UNT or Texas someone someone some city somewhere?

Yeah if the MW had added some of these alphabet soup schools, it would have been a disaster.

I would not mind at all if in the future Hartwell scheduled a home/home with Southern Miss.

My guess is that the SBC is going to invite 4 more schools and that UTEP is screwed

Re: So Miss accepts Sunbelt invite
I feel bad for UTEP and the New Mags, but not bad enough to invite them to join the MWC. UTEPs best option will be to rejoin the WAC and have them along with the new mags work a scheduling alliance with the MWC and go Indy for FB. I don’t see how Conf USA will stay together after the SBC raids them. Who’s left after the raids from the AAC and the SBC? Texas State and UTEP? Who else? Doesn’t look good

Re: So Miss accepts Sunbelt invite
We're already the top G5 conference now, I see no reason to add additional schools from inferior conferences just for the sake of expanding. Who could we even realistically invite that would truly make us better? Adding UTEP or NMSU doesn't do that.

Those schools will be invited to the Sun Belt this week... if the SBC was smart they'd invite UTEP too since they already have two Texas schools.Agzrule wrote: ↑October 24th, 2021, 9:42 pmUTEPViAggie wrote: ↑October 24th, 2021, 8:37 pmI feel bad for UTEP and the New Mags, but not bad enough to invite them to join the MWC. So there are 130 FBS football teams with James Madison looking to be #131. Let's do the math when the current announced changes are finished in the next couple of years:ViAggie wrote: ↑October 24th, 2021, 10:57 pmThose schools will be invited to the Sun Belt this week... if the SBC was smart they'd invite UTEP too since they already have two Texas schools.Agzrule wrote: ↑October 24th, 2021, 9:42 pmUTEPViAggie wrote: ↑October 24th, 2021, 8:37 pmI feel bad for UTEP and the New Mags, but not bad enough to invite them to join the MWC. P4 conferences (56 teams): Pac12 - 12 teams, Big 10 - 14 teams, ACC - 14 teams, SEC - soon 16 teams
Big 12: (soon 12 teams) Kan., Kan. St, Okla. St., Tulsa, TCU, Tex. Tech, TCU, Baylor, Houston, Cinn., Cent. Fla., & BYU
Power Indy: (1 team) Notre Dame
= 69 Total - P4 + Big12 + ND
G4 conferences (51 teams): Sun Belt - soon 13 teams + question about James Madison, AAC - soon 14 teams, MAC - 12 teams, MWC - 12 teams
CUSA: (soon 5 teams) UTEP, Mid. Tenn. St., Fla. International, W. Kentucky, & La. Tech
Small Indy for CUSA: (6 teams) New Mex. St, Liberty, UConn - not likely for CUSA just downgraded, UMass - not likely, Army - not ever, likes Indy, James Madison - MAY be the Key to CUSA Survival
= 62 Total - G4 + CUSA + Small Indy
To get to 8 teams for survival CUSA must add NMST, Liberty, and James Madison, or convince another FCS to move up to FBS. As for the MWC, no G4 team that adds value except to steal a couple of teams from the AAC.

I am glad for them, we will see if that conference survives this? If conference USA does fold does that benefit the MWC in any way?

Re: So Miss accepts Sunbelt invite
No benefit IMO. We wouldn't want any of those teams and it puts FBS programs at risk that can help fill out schedules, bowls, and a potential backlog of future adds to the conference if we ever get in survival mode

NMSU to conf we received usa really puts a damper on the whole WAC fbs resurgence. Which is kinda a shame.
Though I don't think it would have actually happened anyway.

It'll be fine as an FCS conference. The NewMags didn't want to drop down anyway, and I for one am proud they're sticking to their guns.LarryTheAggie wrote: ↑October 25th, 2021, 9:59 amNMSU to conf we received usa really puts a damper on the whole WAC fbs resurgence. Which is kinda a shame.

I don't believe so. None of their schools would add any value to the Mountain West.

Re: So Miss accepts Sunbelt invite
This is not a great but also not a terrible conference lineup for CUSA, and with 8 schools, they don't have a problem getting recognized by the NCAA:
Florida International
Louisiana Tech
Marshall
Middle Tennessee
New Mexico State
Old Dominion
UTEP
Western Kentucky
They should all be able to get sufficient FBA OOC games to fill up 4 slots each, with single FCS games to fill up the final slots.
There's also Liberty to think about. Marshall and Old Dominion aren't very far away. Neither are WKU and MTSU. It might make sense for them rather than independence, and all-sports would absolutely work.

The problem is when the BIG 12 adds 2 more schools, say Memphis and USU (dream scenario), Air Force, Bosie, or whomever in a few years, more shifting will occur, resulting in Conf USA losing 2 more schools. That might be the death nail.

There really is no other choice, nor can UTEP try to one up NMSU. They will be members if the conference wants to survive.

CUSA has a better brand, they’ll invite just enough schools to stave off extinction, plus they’ll have $3 million from each departing school (CUSA’s buy out). It’s actually the WAC that’s finally killing by expansion.
