Wynott
Re: Wynott
Sprinkle gets really excited talking about this kid. I trust his ability to evaluate talent. No way he transfers out unless Sprinkle leaves. He may redshirt his first year to get acclimated to the college game or get minutes comparable to what Karson Templin is getting this year.

Re: Wynott
Sprinkle had talked about finding the players with the right character. I think he values that as much as talent. Maybe more so looking at how quickly he put this year's team together. If Sprinkle is excited for him, then I'm excited for him to be here!

Re: Wynott
Yeah, there are no places for shooters on this team. Get real that we wouldn't want him. He won't start next year and may be asked to redshirt since we will have a lot of players that deserve minutes. Wouldn't it be great to be able redshirt him and have him play four years and tell him to get his Masters Degree here all while making NIL money! I'm all for getting as many good players as possible to push those in front, if they can beat them then great and occasionally I'm sure some won't work out or will transfer to get more playing time, but then you bring in the next batch to compete for time. Nothing wrong with that.
I'm really liking right now that you have Sakho, Johnson and Templin, even Burris having to fight for time at the 4/5 positions and how Sprinkle can go with a certain matchup or hot hand every night. Same thing with Falslev, Uduje, Martinez and until recently Agbonkpolo. We have options. Next year we have to take our Brown but add two incomers vying for time and put Dallin Grant, Phelps and Wynott competing for time. Its all good in my opinion.

I'm sure glad Eustachy passed over Justin Jones. The competition he played against at Malad was not very good. Dodged a bullet there.

Obviously. I meant a guy who played at a small school in a low division and scored a bunch of points. I didn't mean a 6 foot tall white guy who shoots 3s.Aggie in Boise wrote:IMO, he is not a Jaycee type player. If you put him on our current team he wouldn't see the floor. Who are you going to play him over? I hope I'm wrong. I wish the kid well. I think he would be better served developing a couple more years, then potentially transfer in as a Junior.

With the HUGE emphasis on AAU ball, very few kids are discovered playing high school basketball. Gone are the days of finding a Jaycee Carroll or a Justin Jones.

Re: Wynott
I doubt this kid redshirts. I think he challenges for 15 minutes a game. He takes Max’s minutes and provides much more scoring.

Do you really think he would take Max’s minutes? I haven’t watched any film on him, but that kind of seems like saying Templin would be taking Osobars minutes.

Re: Wynott
All I was saying was that it was impressive to see how Wynott single-handedly kept his team in the game offensively all while chasing around a much quicker, albeit shorter, guard like Sevedra. Rocky is definitely not a good team, however they had way more talent than Lapwai and it was very fun to see Wynott showcase his ability to score.Aggie in Boise wrote: ↑December 31st, 2023, 12:44 amWynott is great but I would like to see how he does against better competition.Who are you referring to as Rocky Mountain's best shot maker? Mac, the 5'7" pg?. Rocky is not a very strong team this year and their defense is (I can't express myself without swearing) AF, especially in the paint. Rocky will likely finish in the bottom 2 to 4 of the SIC.ghsaggie wrote: ↑December 29th, 2023, 8:55 pmFinished the game with 46. I was really impressed with his ability to hit tough shots with defenders right in his face. He didn't sit a single minute of the game and had to cover Rocky Mountain's best shot maker for a majority of the game. Overall, I am very excited to have him on the squad next year.ghsaggie wrote: ↑December 29th, 2023, 8:33 pmHe had a HUGE 3rd quarter in the game tonight. 38 points entering the 4th quarter.slcagg wrote: ↑December 29th, 2023, 8:06 pmVs Downey hs out of California.ghsaggie wrote: ↑December 29th, 2023, 7:49 pmHere is a link to some of this tournament played this weekend.

Re: Wynott
I wouldn’t be surprised if he became a phenomenal offensive player. The question will be defensively and adjusting to stiffer competition.
There was a guy a few years ago who put up insane stats in HS in rural Nevada, started off at UNLV but it was evident early he wasn’t a D1 player. I think it was Dantley Walker. But he was only 5’10, while Wynott has a legit 6’6 frame in addition to an outside game. This isn’t Modou Niang camping in the paint and dunking the ball 20 times a game against poor competition. Wynott looks like he has an NBA style game, he’s not just stat padding.
I would much rather have a 6’6 HS player averaging 40/15/8 a game against whoever and shooting 50% from 3, 90% from the ft line, etc. than another decent transfer from programs like Idaho or Coastal Carolina. I think it’s more likely he gets plucked for a ton of NIL money in 2-3 years (or follows Sprinkle somewhere) than is a flop

It was Dantley Walker and because he is LDS, there were MANY here on the board who were livid that we showed no interest.

Sprinkle noted at the last luncheon that he is still growing and could end up as a 6'8" shooting gaurd.

In the second video I really like how he dribbled up and stepped into the 3-pointer. A lot of kids can hit spot up 3's but him stepping into that was nice, it will translate and will dictate a defender to step up, giving him a chance to drive to the lane.

Re: Wynott
So far, most of what I have seen is a kid that is just shooting in a gym. Yes, there happens to be a score being kept and some other players spread around the court but there's not a whole lot of game-type pressure or competition to be had. This is not similar to Jaycee who was constantly double and triple teamed in HS and still averaged 40 through his energizer bunny engine and incredible quick release shooting ability. Wynott looks like a 6'-6" kid that is going up against guys he is mostly a foot taller than and have given up on even trying to guard him or stop him from doing whatever he wants.
This is not to say he doesn't have a nice shot and great form but I will be interested to see what he does when he has to deal with being closely guarded by a same sized guy that is more athletic than him. I hope it turns out well for USU's sake, we desperately need some guys that can shoot the ball!

Re: Wynott
Again - as has been stated - Sprinkle didn't recruit him because he dominated HS ball. He plays on an AAU team - which very few (if any) fans have footage of. Apparently he did well enough there to deserve an offer. I understand caution, but the kid won the coaches over - not with HS highlights but with game skills. We shouldn't be too quick to downplay his skills when we haven't seen them on display in the same forum that the coaches did.

Plenty of AAU highlights out there as well. The kid can play. If it makes anyone feel better, it's the same AAU team that Rollie Worster played on when he was a kid.
