Below is a running chat on the Cavs board about Sam. It is currently 26 pages and was started last season. They certainly love Sam. Some of the posts are pure gold and completely in left field and not at all related to basketball.

My favorite quote from the ESPN article
“He’s doing it consistently,” said Jarrett Allen, who set a franchise record with his 12th straight double-double. “We feel like we can give him the ball every single time and he’s going to make the shot. In my mind he hasn’t missed yet.”

Re: Sam
Donovan had 13 assists that game.Coloraggie wrote: ↑January 23rd, 2024, 10:28 amI noticed that too. Mitchell is getting a lot of assists by drawing defenders and then kicking out to Sam. Mitchell has full confidence and is probably very happy to have Sam. If Sam keeps hitting at this rate then Mitchell will see a lot fewer double teams and it will open his game and increase his shooting percentage as well.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑January 23rd, 2024, 10:26 amIn those highlights it's awesome see Donovan Mitchell deliberately looking for Sam to get him 3-point looks.

Re: Sam
I'm confused what these stats are. They look like season leaders for 3pt %. However, Sam's not even currently top 10 in the league this year (yet). Grayson Allen currently leads the league with an absurd 49%.

Re: Sam
I always like to throw this out there when talking about Jaycee. The guy from byu that everyone went goo-goo over is conspicuously not on this list. Carroll could shoot the ball. He just came along a little too soon for the NBA.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑January 21st, 2024, 11:10 amHe had a multitude offers from NBA teams but he decided he'd rather be a star in Europe then an end of bench guy in the NBA.FloridaAggie13 wrote: ↑January 20th, 2024, 10:15 pmIf I recall correctly, Jaycee played in three summer leagues in the NBA - he had no problems scoring when given the opportunity. Unfortunately, he was always handed the ball and told to play PG because of his size; obviously, this was not his skillset. In fact, I also recall him saying NBA teams would tell him they wanted to run him at SG but then as soon as he showed up, boom, now he's a PG. After three years of the bs he decided to solidify his legend as Jaycee 'boom boom' Carroll in Italy and stopped taking the calls from the NBA.StanfordAggie wrote: ↑January 19th, 2024, 8:17 pmHe might have been able to collect a paycheck for a few years as a "instant offense/lights out shooter the defense needs to respect guy" toward the bottom of some team's bench, but that was probably his absolute ceiling. I think he was smart to be content with a fat paycheck on a championship team in Europe. I seem to recall a BYU player with a similar game who washed out of the NBA very quickly after realizing he could have a more lucrative career playing in a lower-tier league. I can't remember his name, though.Elkaggie wrote: ↑January 17th, 2024, 12:29 pmJaycee is too short to play effectively in today’s NBA.Yossarian wrote: ↑January 17th, 2024, 10:49 amJaycee was born about 5 or 6 years too early.Real Life Aggie wrote: ↑January 17th, 2024, 10:31 amSam's greatest friend in his NBA career: a wide open ceiling for incredible 3-pt shooters.
Sam's greatest enemy in his NBA career: the hardwood floor.
I spoke with him after his sophomore year, NBA scouts were telling him then he needed to learn the point but Stew refused to play him there. Same thing happened to Steph Curry and he evolved his game. JC could have easily done the same.

Merrill’s 17.7 three-point shots per 100 possessions is approaching even what Zahar Vedischev accomplished for the Aggies in the abbreviated 2020-2021 season.

I am hoping with the return of players he is not going to get screwed over. I was following the game and couldn’t believe he only had one shot and 7 minutes. If they end up leaving him on the bench like this I’m done with the NBA.

Re: Sam
I didn’t watch that one but wonder if it had anything to do with Mobley coming back off injury. They have Garland returning for tomorrow nights game as well. So it'll probably mean fewer minutes for Sam for a few weeks.
It'll be interesting to see what they do at the trade deadline, they have an abundance of good wing players and I wouldn’t be surprised if they either consolidate a few of them for a bigger piece or for some future draft capital.
