2024 WAAAAY to Early Spring Ball Depth Chart

After taking a LONG look at what New Mexico State ran and raking over their depth chart, I've tailored a depth chart of our roster to fit what Coach Dreiling had at New Mexico State. I hope you like it. I'm sure there will be plenty to discuss. Thanks for checking it out guys!!

Really surprised to see Bryson Barnes as the 4th QB if I’m being completely honest. Happy to see people beating him out tho

I've flipped him to 3rd. I believe that Hillstead will be redshirted.

We can't operate based on how someone on the team might behave in the future. Anyone with eligibility left could potentially leave us for any multitude of reasons. If the coaches feel it best to RS someone, that's their decision to make. They obviously looked at the landscape and made that decision based on (what we would hope to be) their professional expertise.

Yeah and I watched him single handedly will his team to beat USC. I know he’s not great but I thought he would push for 2nd string

Yeah and I watched him single handedly will his team to beat USC. I know he’s not great but I thought he would push for 2nd string

And Levi Williams did the same for us against UNM (certainly not here to compare UNM and USC). I expect he'll play a Levi Williams type of role, ie- not be utilized as a tight end like he should be.

Oh, I agree. I thought it was funny last year how many on here would freak out about Hillstead potentially leaving if forced to RS. Personally, I wouldn't have a problem with him leaving.

Glad to see Tuatagaloa moved to TE. He's a talented kid, but I don't see him getting on the field at QB.

So I guess the Utah transfer, Jadon Pearson, is in fact going to play Safety?

His graphic for Utah State announced him as a Linebacker, and his Instagram profile says he's a linebacker at Utah State.

Though he did play Safety at Utah and was a Safety size.

I have him slated to play safety. I think that is his best opportunity to see the field. However, he MAY get a crack at WILL and compete with Switzer.

There is nothing definitive about the WAAAAAY too early depth chart. Haha!!

Barnes will list as a senior but he has one more graduate/covid year left for 2025.

I'm planning on it...I'll come up to as many practices as possible. They are only open if they are in the Stadium, correct? I drive up from Bountiful, so I'll get up to as many as I can.

I don’t really have a position in mind. I was just wondering if there’s another guy or two who are ready to make a leap like Royals did last year (or even half of that leap)

Youre probably right. My hope would be switz acts as a the 4th LB, that can defend the pass so its more of a 3-4-4 instead of a smaller front 4-2-5

I am interested to see how Legas has developed in the offseason. Last season, BA was pretty quick to move from Legas to Hillstead and reluctant to move back. What is the better investment, BA investing time in developing Legas or developing a culture of competition by bringing in other capable QBs?

He was right to move on from Cooper during the AF game. He was playing like hot garbage. Once Cooper returned against UCONN and delivered the big comeback it should have never been in question who was the starter going forward. I like BA but going back to Hillstead the 2nd time last year was just plain dumb. Hopefully he can learn from it this coming year.

I’m just glad that Blake changed his mind about the dc and made a change after he had mentioned numerous times that Cauthen was going to be back for another year. I wasn’t even looking forward to next year until the change was made. That garbage that was on the defensive side of the ball was UGLY for good portion of the year and got worse as the season went on. Looking forward to football season now and hope it’s a great one. Can’t wait for some good weather and some spring football scrimmages. Thanks 22 for keeping us updated with everything.
