The whole tournament seeding has zero sense.

The MWC got 6 teams in the tourney so now we need to show everyone that the conferences is legit by winning a few games. Go Rams, Lobos, Aztecs, Wolfpack, Broncos, and of course Aggies!

Even the eastern teams are weird
Duquesne is a 11 seed.
UAB is a 12 seed.

I would love to the committee to explain their seeding. I just want to see the mental gymnastics.

Not really, I mean the Big East is currently up in arms as they only got 3 teams in somehow. More like past/recent tourney success + if you have a notable head coach bias this year. Some really weird seeding decisions.

I guess just East of the Rocky Mountains bias (exception Gonzaga). The Big East was very top heavy.

Eastern bias and Big East getting hosed are mutually exclusive. There were eastern teams getting hosed while many more got a good seed for no reason.

It did seem like past tourney success had the biggest factor on seeding this year. Gonzaga is really good but did not think they should be on the 5 seed. I think SDSU as a 5 seed was generous but based on last year it makes sense. Michigan State really faltered down the stretch and they were safely in the tournament. Oh well the MWC was well respected in terms of # of teams in now but have to prove it on the court. I think 3 wins would be successful for the conference based on matchups and seeds.

They will not make the champions of mid major conferences go to the play in games. Those are reserved for the bottom 4 auto qualifiers and the last 4 at large teams. I think BYU based on metrics were actually underseeded. They should have been the 5 seed in SLC but in terms of matchups I think their first round matchup is way more favorable than what Gonzaga drew.

I wanted BYU and Utah State in the 4/5 seed bracket in Salt Lake. This would have created the chance of the BYU vs Utah State (I love the idea of the Aggies beating BYU or Utah in the NCAA tournament setting).

🤔

Creighton got beat twice
TCU
St Mary’s
Washington
BC
Colorado
Gonzaga

I feel for Indiana State as well. Lost couple games without key player and teams like them and G5 teams is you can’t get any good OOC home games and aren’t typically high up on exempt tournament lists of being invited to good tournaments. P5 teams don’t have to go on road at all in OOC and get 16-20 great conference games

Plus now a days you practically return no one and you don’t want to schedule tough away games when team hasn’t gelled or played together and is learning new system from new coach or you return very little.

For real? People keep saying this but it don't get it. Would you like it as much when they beat us? Cuz that's what would have happened if we played byu. We haven't beat them in over a decade, what makes you think we could this year? We made Sdsu look like like World Beaters from beyond the arc, imagine what a team that can actually make it would look like. Smh

Meanwhile, they were completely fine with giving high seeds to the Big 12. What an absolute joke. I have defended the committee against charges of P6 bias in the past, but this is the first time where I feel like they simply did not treat the non-P6 fairly. They weren't even consistent among non-P6 conferences. If conferences that don't have marquee OOC wins get punished, why did Gonzaga and St. Mary's get 5 seeds? The entire WCC literally beat no one in OOC play other than Kentucky. I really hope that every MWC team wins multiple games and makes the committee look like idiots. Indeed, the silver lining is that a win in the play-in game gives an extra revenue unit just like any other tournament win. So there is a good chance that this screw job will at least get some extra money for the conference.

That and the WCC falls off a cliff really fast in terms of quality teams.

They are 10-5 in Q1/Q2 games, and they beat Arizona on a neutral court. But they also had a lot of bad losses. I had them as a 10 seed in my bracket just barely above the play-in games. So I think 8 is a little high, but not completely unreasonable.

I'm trying to see a bright spot, so since we're in the MidWest region, if you put us in the 6th seed we draw Oregon in the first round. Is that really any easier than TCU? BYU got a good draw at #6 with Duquense, but the other 11 seeds are Mississippi St and No Carolina St. (UNM is the other so not valid). If we got a 6, we probably would have the options of TCU, Mississippi St and NC St. Pick your poison.

IMO, BSU and UNM have a lot bigger (I can't express myself without swearing) than we do.

I think the ESPN BPI elevation penalty was in effect. With Gonzaga, Saint Mary’s, and SDSU not getting penalized because they’re not at elevation.

Coastal elite corruption at its finest.

They also seem to forget that U of A (who is legit very good) is at the very high elevation of 2500 feet.

Re: The seeding for the whole NCAA tournament

The whole thing is about kissing the p5's as$. Notice that St John's didn't get selected. The Big East is upset about that right now. Arguably one of the best conferences and they get a many bids as the PAC 12. Why? They're not a p5.

This is simply about the NCAA trying to keep the p5 happy so they don't take their ball and go home.
They couldn't keep New Mexico out so they screwed them on a seed more than anyone. Why? Because they're not p5. This isn't rocket science.
