Interesting, rare to be the same ranking in two polls that far down. We'll take it!

I can't find a vote breakdown yet, but these are voters on it of interest that have a closer connection to USU. Curious to see how they all voted.
Blake Anderson, Utah State; Craig Bohl, Wyoming; Troy Calhoun, Air Force; Danny Gonzales, New Mexico; Todd Graham, Hawaii; Bryan Harsin, Auburn; Brady Hoke, San Diego State; Jonathan Smith, Oregon State; Kyle Whittingham, Utah.

Re: #24 In the Coaches Poll
Their bloated ranking previous to the bowl saved them. They should have been more like 19-21 previous to the bowls and should have fallen out with their loss.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 12:56 pmHow is byu still ranked after their pathetic bowl game?

Re: #24 In the Coaches Poll
I am not as worried about the guys they are bringing in, mostly because Allgeier was unbelievably quick for his size. If they want to try to nickel and dime us down the field with big strong RBs, we've won despite that before. Allgeier could grind it out or break off huge runs. BYU is going to be quite tough next year again, but I think we will be better as well.Yossarian wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 1:19 pmAnd they will replace him with not one, but two, big power backs that we can't tackle for next year.YoungBloodAggie wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 1:08 pmTyler Allgeier singlehandedly killed us.coolag wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 1:07 pmOr maybe ask, how in the hell did we lose to them?OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 12:56 pmHow is byu still ranked after their pathetic bowl game?

Re: #24 In the Coaches Poll
I don't know that they are run-of-the-mill power backs. One a transfer from Cal (their leading rusher in 2 of the last 3 years) and the other a transfer from Stanford. They will be more than plodding type backs.YoungBloodAggie wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 1:21 pmI am not as worried about the guys they are bringing in, mostly because Allgeier was unbelievably quick for his size. Re: #24 In the Coaches Poll
Fair comments about what the school in Provo could have for running backs next season. Over many years that school has enjoyed large running backs and very big linebackers. Just hard to evaluate next season from the projected players vs. the established players. that school should be tough next year, and we should be much better with more size in the trenches.
I seem to recall that "speed kills" on a football field. We will know next season.
On another note, I believe the 2021 team improved as the season went along, the Wyoming game excepted. We actually had the team talent to over achieve in 2021, and our players bought into a winning mentality.

If we apply the lessons learned from the Wyo game next year the way we applied them against the Aztecs and the Beavers at tend of this year, we'll have a very good shot at beating the one true team.NavyBlueAggie wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 1:40 pmFair comments about what the school in Provo could have for running backs next season. Re: #24 In the Coaches Poll
We hadn't quite figured out how to use our speed yet, it took us losing to Wyoming and having an existential reckoning and coming to the realization that we weren't going to be able to win every game just by having a shoot out.Yossarian wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 1:19 pmAnd they will replace him with not one, but two, big power backs that we can't tackle for next year.YoungBloodAggie wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 1:08 pmTyler Allgeier singlehandedly killed us.coolag wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 1:07 pmOr maybe ask, how in the hell did we lose to them?OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 12:56 pmHow is byu still ranked after their pathetic bowl game?

It seems like it took half the year for something to click on the defense. A) The players finally started to buy into Banda's system and get themselves into the right position to defend the way he wanted to; or
B) Banda finally dialed in a system that would work for the personnel that he had. He started using their smaller size and speed as a strength, rather than trying to defend straight up against larger lines.
I'm thinking it was more "B". The way the defense played in the second half of the season was much different than the first. Except for the Wyoming game. I cannot wrap my mind around what happened in that game.

The interesting thing:
The state of Utah has more teams ranked in the final poll than the states of Texas and Florida...... combined.
